PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program

CHI St. Vincent Infirmary

Program Description

PGY1 pharmacy residency programs build on pharmacy education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of clinical conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training. Additionally, the residency program at CHI St. Vincent is designed to develop a well-rounded pharmacy practitioner and future leader in pharmacy practice, who is clinically prepared for an advanced level of practice at a community-based hospital.

Our residency gives in-depth experience in broad areas of pharmacy practice, including internal medicine, critical care, infectious disease, cardiology, medication safety, emergency medicine, and antimicrobial stewardship. The resident's activities include, but are not limited to, education for coworkers and patients, multi-disciplinary rounds, precepting pharmacy students, major research project to present at a residents conference, poster presentation, pharmacy committee participation, MUE and new drug reviews, and completion of teaching certificate and research certificate programs.

Welcome Message from Program Director

Dear Prospective Applicant,

Thank you for your interest in our PGY1 pharmacy residency program at CHI St. Vincent Infirmary and for your commitment to continued professional development.

As a resident at CHI St. Vincent Infirmary, you will engage in diverse learning experiences designed to develop a well-rounded practitioner and future leader in pharmacy practice. Our ASHP-accredited program focuses on direct patient care and practice management, building skills in a variety of acute care settings. Caring for the highest acuity patients in the state, our hospital provides residents with invaluable experience and confidence in managing the most complext disease states.

What truly sets our program apart is the supportive environment fostered by our preceptors and co-workers. Working in our pharmacy department means being a part of the "pharmily" - close knit group that values mutual support, collaboration, and camaraderie. We care about each other, enjoy working together and spending time with one another. We have several pharmacists that are still employed or retired after 40+ years of service. Our preceptors are dedicated to both the success and well being of our residents

I am excited by the prospect of welcoming dedicated individuals to our PGY1 program, ready to contribute to our mission of providing excellent and compassionate care.

Sincerely,

Kristyn McKnight, PharmD, BCCCP
