Program Highlights

Located in the heart of Phoenix, Arizona, St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center (SJHMC) is a 587 bed not-for-profit academic teaching hospital that provides a wide range of health, social, and support services, with special advocacy for the poor and under-served. St. Joseph’s is a nationally recognized center for quality quaternary care, medical education, and research. SJHMC is home to the internationally renowned Barrow Neurological and Norton Thoracic Institutes and also offers a Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and a Level I Trauma Center certified by the American College of Surgeons. Barrow Neurological Institute is one of the busiest neurosurgical programs in the world with over 7000 neurosurgical procedures performed annually. Norton Thoracic Institute at SJHMC is home to one of the busiest lung transplant programs in the United States. The lung transplant program, which launched in April 2007, cares for approximately 1,000 post-transplant patients and ranks in the top 5 in the nation for overall lung transplant volume. We consistently rank as one of the top hospitals for neurology and neurosurgery by U.S. News and World Report. The emergency department treats in excess of 70,000 patients a year. The hospital has a 72 bed, level IV Neonatal ICU and over 100 adult ICU beds split between the Neurology ICU, Medical ICU, Surgical ICU, Trauma ICU, and Cardiothoracic ICU. SJHMC is a Joint Commission Certified Advanced Comprehensive Stroke Center, Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) Center, and holds Advanced Certification in Perinatal Care. SJHMC is recognized by the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO) as a Gold Level Center of Excellence for its Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) program, and is also an American College of Cardiology Chest Pain PCI accredited site. These services draw complex patients and, as a resident at St. Joseph’s, you will be an integral part of these medical services.

Welcome Message from Program Director

Welcome to Our PGY2 Critical Care Pharmacy Residency Program

Welcome, and thank you for your interest in our PGY2 Critical Care Pharmacy Residency Program at Dignity Health St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center.

Our program is committed to developing highly skilled, compassionate, and confident critical care pharmacists who are prepared to make a meaningful impact on the care of critically ill patients. We recognize that caring for patients in the ICU requires more than clinical expertise—it requires curiosity, resilience, collaboration, sound judgment, and a commitment to lifelong learning.

Throughout the year, our residents are immersed in a diverse and challenging critical care practice environment where they work alongside physicians, nurses, advanced practice providers, respiratory therapists, and other members of the multidisciplinary team. Through progressive clinical experiences, longitudinal learning, research and quality improvement opportunities, teaching, and mentorship, our residents are encouraged to grow both professionally and personally.

We believe the most successful residency experience is one in which residents are challenged while also supported. Our preceptors are dedicated to providing meaningful feedback, individualized mentorship, and opportunities for residents to develop their unique clinical interests and professional goals. We strive to create an environment where questions are welcomed, collaboration is valued, and residents are empowered to become independent practitioners and leaders in critical care pharmacy.

A PGY2 year is an exciting and transformative step in a pharmacist’s career. While the year will undoubtedly challenge you, it will also provide opportunities to discover your strengths, expand your clinical expertise, and build relationships that will continue throughout your career.

We invite you to explore our program, learn about our clinical experiences and opportunities, and discover what makes our residency community special. We look forward to getting to know you and learning how our program can help you achieve your goals in critical care pharmacy.

We hope you will consider joining our team!

John Radosevich, PharmD, FCCM, BCCCP, BCPS

Our Community

Phoenix is the fifth largest city in the country, and also is home to teams in three major professional sports. Phoenix supports a plethora of local restaurants in a number of vibrant entertainment districts; although not surprisingly, southwestern cuisine gets top marks from visitors. An abundance of concert halls, stadiums, and arenas also attract a wide selection of top artists and live shows to complement our local art and culture community. Phoenix is just a short drive from majestic mountains and lakes offering every kind of recreational option, including skiing (water and snow), boating, fishing, hiking, and camping. With all this to offer, it is no wonder why the "Valley of the Sun" is one of the country's most desirable places to live, work, and play.
