Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, the GI Lab Technician will assume the responsibility of assisting the RN in preparation of patients, transporting patients, and assisting the physician with all GI endoscopic procedures. Responsible for assuring appropriate decontamination, testing, and sterilization of equipment/instrumentation used in GI endoscopy procedures.

  • Cleans and decontaminates endoscopes and all applicable channels according to the manufacturer's Instructions For Use (IFU).
  • Sterilizes endoscopes utilizing appropriate quick connects and validated sterilization cycle parameters.
  • Performs high-level disinfection of endoscopes when indicated, following established protocols.
  • Handles and stores endoscopes properly to prevent damage and maintain sterility.
  • Sterilization Equipment Monitoring & Maintenance:
  • Completes diagnostic testing, chemical, and biological monitoring at prescribed intervals on sterilization equipment.
  • Troubleshoots and addresses sterilizer failures according to the operator's manual.
  • Documents endoscope serial number, testing results, monitoring data, and five-day resterilization information accurately and completely.
  • Procedure Assistance:Assists with diagnostic and therapeutic GI procedures, anticipating the needs specific to the patient and the procedure.
  • Safely transports patients to and from the procedure room.
  • Restocks, orders, and outdates supplies on a regular basis to maintain adequate inventory levels.


Qualifications
  • Surgical Technician graduate from a formal training program or one year experience as a GI Lab technician
  • Graduate of a surgical technician program or equivalent experience as a technician in GI Lab.
  • Must be able to work in a fast paced environment with multiple interruptions. Must be able to work varied hours to meet
    departmental needs.
  • Previous GI Lab Technician experience is preferred
  • Current AHA BLS card required.
  • LA City Fire Card required within 90 days of hire.

This position is represented by the SEIU-UHW and is covered by the terms and conditions of the applicable collective bargaining agreement
