The posted compensation range of $24.00 - $31.52 /hour is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay CommonSpirit in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting. CommonSpirit may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range as permitted by law.

Job Summary and Responsibilities

Under general supervision and utilizing independent judgment prepares season and cooks. Cooks products for patients and customers according to established department procedures.

  • Performs record keeping functions as required.
  • Responsible for taking payments and balance of Cash drawer on a daily basis.
  • Duties include handling credit card payments according to Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI-DSS).
  • This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the Mission of the Organization. It is expected that the employee will demonstrate behavior consistent with the Core Values.
  • The employee shall support the Organization's strategic plan and the goals and direction of the Performance Improvement Plan (PIP).
  • Assembles food for cooking following standardized recipes according to diet order, production sheet, or menu. Collects supplies and equipment needed for daily production following standard food production procedures to produce high quality nutritious meals.
  • Adjusts recipes according to the number of meals to be served. Prepares patient diet items in accordance with physician orders, patient needs, food availability and hospital and dietary requirements. Delivers, sets up and cleans up special catering functions. Follows proper food handling, preparation, and storage procedures.
  • Prepares and cooks food following standardized recipes according to diet order, production sheet, or menu. Cooks a number of different food items using knowledge of grilling, frying, baking, broiling and steaming equipment. Prepares menu items involving several steps to plan and coordinate food so it is ready for serving at a specific time. Uses standard portions when serving food. Prepares food in a timely manner.
  • Replenishes food items, as needed using standard utensils, portion controls and temperatures to comply with ADA, state, and federal regulations to ensure uniformity, safety and appearance.
  • Checks equipment and cooking/production areas often to make sure safety and sanitation requirements are maintained. Operate equipment and performs work-related duties in a safe manner. Reports repairs and maintenance to supervisor. Maintains a clean work environment, following sanitation and food safety guidelines. Follows established procedures when using chemicals and cleaning agents. Maintains standard records and reports as required by department and regulatory agencies.


Job Requirements

Minimum:

  • One (1) year of institutional cooking experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent technical training
  • Ability to read, write, and follow verbal and written instructions in English
  • Excellent communication and observation skills
  • Must maintain a Serve Safe certificate or obtain with six (6) months of hire

Preferred:                                                     

  • Formal culinary training.
  • Knowledge and techniques used in quantity food preparation, which includes, grilling, frying, baking, broiling and steaming.
  • Previous experience with food preparation of modified diets.
