Job Summary and Responsibilities
As our Vice President of Operations at Virginia Mason Medical Center,, now part of CommonSpirit Health formed between Catholic Health Initiatives (CHI) and Dignity Health, you will oversee the strategic and operational business functions  of Perioperative Services as well as Ambulatory Medical and Surgical Service Lines. Work is focused on optimizing culture, quality, safety and the patient experience in partnership with physician leadership, ensuring that the operational needs of the organization are understood and addressed in short- and long-term strategic planning, leading significant change management and performance improvement initiatives, maximizing financial performance and creating effective relationships with external constituencies to deliver sustained value to the community.
You’ll be responsible for designing and implementing business plans, performance goals, and growth of existing and new service lines that directly impact the quality of the environment where our patients receive care. You’ll build trust in these interactions by learning and leveraging your team's strengths and facilitating and encouraging collaboration. Your success in this role comes from your enthusiasm to strive for excellence every day and connect with the people you serve- keeping them as a focus in your strategic planning process.
You’re developing people, so you’ll not only lead by example but coach and mentor the leaders who report directly to you. You’ll know you’re doing this well when you see this replicated in their direct reports! This also includes motivating the team and keeping morale high under challenging circumstances.  Attend regular meetings with other executives, directors, and department heads to review the last 24 hours and the upcoming 24 hours. You’ll work with the experts on your team to develop plans to implement services based on community needs and the organization's strategic business goals. No one is an expert in everything, so collaboration is essential.

Connecting with the patients is an important part of this role. You, and other leaders, will participate in regular patient experience rounds to get feedback and ensure you and your team are meeting patient care needs.

A variety of projects flow through your office. You have to be ready to coordinate and make decisions on facilities, real estate, construction projects, marketing needs, food and nutrition services, environmental services, safety and security services, and some clinical services.
