Physical Therapist II
The posted compensation range of $45.85 - $66.48 /hour is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay CommonSpirit in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting. CommonSpirit may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range as permitted by law.
Responsibilities
Position Summary:
In keeping with the Dignity Health core values the Physical Therapist II is responsible for providing physical therapy assessments and treatments to patients. Provides training and/or supervision to staff physical therapy assistants and therapy aides.
Job Details:
Abuse Protection and Reporting: Identifies and reports patient abuse and neglect i.e.: physical assault, domestic abuse and neglect of elders and children. Measurement: Feedback, Chart Review, Observation.
Annual Performance Evaluations: Assists Therapy Manager/Supervisor in annual performance reviews of therapy assistants and aides and works to assist these team members in improving job performance. (NA - per diem) Measurement: Feedback, Observation.
Assessment: Accurately identifies patient's functional deficits/dysfunction through review of the medical record, through observation of the patient, through information obtained from the patient/family, and through manual muscle testing, range of motion testing, postural analysis, functional analysis and other physical therapy assessment techniques. Accurately interprets the physician's order. Measurement: Discussion, Feedback, Chart Review, Observation.
Communication: Effectively communicates with other members of the healthcare team regarding goals, progress and rehab potential. Works as a collaborative member of the treatment team. Attends any necessary and appropriate patient care meetings, such as mini rounds, weekly patient care conference, weekly NICU discharge meetings, etc. Measurement: Feedback, Observation.
Continuing Education: Presents at least one departmental or hospital inservice per year. Keeps abreast of current trends and other developments in Rehabilitation as evidenced by participation and attendance of inservices, continuing education courses, and current professional publications. Sufficient CE hours for maintenance of licensure including CE courses necessary to attain expertise appropriate for clinical level II. (NA - per diem) Measurement: Observation.
Discontinuation of Treatment: Terminates treatment appropriately when patient has met goals, shows plateau of progress, or is no longer authorized for treatment. Plans for the patient's discharge in adequate time for appropriate referrals to be made. Makes appropriate recommendations for referrals at next level of care, including outpatient therapy, home health and MTU. Measurement: Feedback/Observation, Chart Review.
Documenting Care of the Patient: Prepares, maintains, and transmits accurate, complete and timely patient records in accordance with regulatory guidelines, department and hospital standards. Measurement: Feedback, Chart Review, Observation.
Education, Patient/Family: Provides effective education to patients, caregivers and interdisciplinary team members regularly as part of patient care. Creation/presentation of onsite inservices, community seminars, professional conferences; presentation of research or clinical outcomes, cross-training of interdisciplinary staff; academic teaching; acts as department champion on housewide projects/education; staff mentoring. Measurement: Feedback/Observation, Chart Review.
Equipment Use, Care and Maintenance: Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly and is knowledgeable in care and maintenance of all therapy equipment in department. Measurement: Discussion, Observation/Feedback.
Evaluate Patient Response to Care: Evaluates patients accurately and comprehensively in accordance with professional standards by administering appropriate tests to determine impairment and functional disabilities. Develops an effective, patient-centered plan of care to include appropriate short & long term goals based on evaluation results and physician diagnosis. Effectively administers safe and direct patient care, utilizing established therapeutic procedures and techniques. Measurement: Feedback/Observation, Chart Review.
Implementing Therapy Procedures: Demonstrates correct technique of accepted physical therapy procedures including functional mobility training, balance training, coordination exercises, assistive devices/equipment, therapeutic exercise, wound care and manual therapy techniques. Organizes the patient care time to meet established treatment goals by appropriate setting of priorities. Reassesses each treatment session and modifies treatment plans appropriately. Measurement: Demonstration, Feedback, Observation.
Infection Control: Adheres to and promotes the practices, policies and procedures of the hospital infection control program. Measurement: Feedback, Observation.
Information Management-Confidentiality/Security of Patient Information: Advocates confidentiality in all areas of practice. Measurement: Feedback, Observation.
Leadership: Delegation/Supervision: Maintains appropriate supervision of licensed applicant PT's, therapy assistants and therapy aides and delegates appropriately within scope of practice. Continually re-evaluates changes in patients condition that would change the appropriateness of delegation. If CCS paneled, provides supervision to non-CCS paneled PT's. Supervises clinical and administrative support staff effectively and within regulatory guidelines. Measurement: Feedback, Chart Review, Observation.
Leadership: Tasks: Assumes other duties as directed by the Therapy Manager/Supervisor which may include department inservice coordinator, department CQI coordinator, or responsible for assigning/scheduling and monitoring of area duties, staff and patient schedules. (NA - per diem) Measurement: Feedback, Observation.
Modality Use: Demonstrates correct technique for use and maintenance of modalities including hot pack/cold pack, ultrasound, electrical stimulation, TENS, traction, iontophoresis, phonophoresis, whirlpool and pulsed lavage as appropriate to treatment area. Knowledge of indications and contraindications. Measurement: Demonstration, Observation, Verbalization.
Pain Management: Accurately assesses patient pain status, educates patient/family regarding appropriate pain relief strategies, and effectively implements and evaluates the pain management plan on an as needed basis. Measurement: Feedback, Chart Review, Observation.
Planning Care: Uses creativity and skill in effectively designing an appropriate care plan, in collaboration with the patient. Formulates realistic and appropriate short/long term treatment goals. Measurement: Feedback, Chart Review, Observation.
Professional Code: Maintains the standards of conduct as promulgated by the APTA and adheres to the professional code of ethics in the performance of duties. Measurement: Feedback/Observation, Verbalization.
Promotion of Therapy Services: Represents and promotes therapy services to hospital staff, volunteers, patients and visitors through use of tact, good judgement, positive attitude and effective communication skills. Measurement: Feedback, Observation.
Recommendations: Makes appropriate recommendations regarding the patient's plan of care to the physician, case managers, nursing and other health care team members. Measurement: Feedback/Observation, Chart Review.
Restraints: Assists in investigating all methods of provision of safe environment and applies and removes restraints correctly and in accordance of hospital policy. Measurement: Feedback, Chart Review, Observation.
Student Training: May supervise and evaluate Physical Therapy students, interns and foreign trained applicants. Assists with or acts as primary preceptor for a full or part-time student intern/extern/volunteer. (NA - per diem) Measurement: Feedback/Observation.
Time Management: Demonstrates good time management skills and assists in monitoring and maintaining productivity standards. Measurement: Feedback/Observation, Productivity Data.
Assists/participates in process improvement activities; program development; patient-care committees; community activities. Measurement: Feedback/Observation.
Accomplishes tasks within departmental established productive standards. Measurement: Feedback/Observation, Productivity Data.
Submits charges for patient care accurately and in a timely manner. Measurement: Feedback/Observation, Chart Review.
Orients and mentors therapy staff. Measurement: Feedback/Observation.
Other duties as assigned. Measurement: Feedback/Observation.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Hospital Based: minimum of 3 years of clinical experience.Â
- Homecare Based: minimum of 3 years of experience required.
- Graduate of an accredited physical therapy program.
- Current California license in Physical Therapy
- Current CPR
- Must have California driver's license with clean driving record with proof of liability insurance for automobile.
- Evidence of ability to function with a high degree of independence and competence. Manages audits feedback on evalutions and precepts.
Special Skills:
- Demonstrates good interpersonal skills with fellow staff members physicians hospital departments and the general public. Â
- Demonstrates competent working knowledge of the standard practices procedures and equipment utilized in the department.
- Ability and willingness to actively participate in departmental and hospital programs.
- Demonstrates self-motivation and ability to acheive results through good organization skills and prioritization of work.
- Ability to work independently and be a functional team member in a team orientated enviroment.
- Ability to mentor and coach student interns or oversee their clinical experience.
- Ability to be flexible with caseload within any given day as needed for the benfit of the department.
- Promotes PT services in the community as appropriate.
