Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES

Bring your passion for oncology and patient care to the outpatient infusion center at Dignity Health Cancer Institute at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center. As a Pharmacy Technician in our growing program, you will be an integral part of a team dedicated to advancing cancer treatment and compassionate care. We are seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented, and critically thinking individual with excellent communication skills to contribute to positive patient experiences and clinical excellence. This role offers the unique opportunity to work in a dynamic, high-acuity environment specializing in oncology.

Under the direct supervision of a Pharmacist, you will perform a wide range of essential pharmacy functions, including, but not limited to:

  • Medication Preparation & Dispensing: Accurately prepare and dispense prescribed medications, ensuring compliance with all state and federal regulations, and CSH policies and procedures. This includes both sterile and non-sterile compounding of a variety of medications, including hazardous drugs (e.g., chemotherapy), strictly adhering to USP <795>, USP <797>, and USP <800> guidelines.

  • Automated Dispensing System Management: Efficiently manage and service automated dispensing machines (e.g., Omnicell), ensuring proper medication stocking, system functionality, and inventory accuracy.

  • Medication Distribution & Delivery: Conduct prompt and accurate delivery of medications to various clinical areas, including outpatient clinics and the infusion suite, optimizing patient care workflows.

  • Inventory Management & Control: Assist in comprehensive inventory management, including maintaining proper medication and supply stock levels, managing medication returns, and performing charging and crediting functions to support efficient drug distribution processes.

  • Quality Assurance & Compliance: Actively participate in departmental quality assurance programs, maintain meticulous documentation, and ensure all activities adhere to regulatory requirements, The Joint Commission standards, and internal policies.

  • Clerical & Administrative Support: Perform routine clerical and administrative tasks essential to the smooth daily operations of the pharmacy department.

  • Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with pharmacists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, communicating effectively to ensure coordinated and safe patient care.

  • Professional Development: Engage in continuous learning by completing all required educational modules, attending staff meetings, and staying current with departmental changes, policies, and industry best practices. Maintain aseptic technique and proper handling of controlled substances.

  • Cross-Training: Potential for cross-training in other specialty areas such as outpatient neurology infusion and inpatient pharmacy, expanding your skill set within our organization


Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS:

  • One 6 months of work experience in hospital or infusion pharmacy practice.

  • Current Pharmacy Technician certification.

  • Registered Pharmacy Technician in the State of Arizona.

  • High School Diploma

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with handling and dispensing of parenteral chemotherapy.

  • Experience with investigational protocols and medications.
