The posted compensation range of $72.54 - $107.90 /hour is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay CommonSpirit in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting. CommonSpirit may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range as permitted by law.
Job Summary and Responsibilities
We are seeking a highly motivated and results-oriented Pharmacy Director to lead and optimize all facets of daily pharmacy operations at our facility. This critical role encompasses coordinating and supervising professional and ancillary staff in drug distribution, preparation, and comprehensive pharmaceutical care activities, ensuring safe, effective, and cost-efficient medication therapy. Beyond operational excellence, the successful candidate will be responsible for achieving financial targets, spearheading performance improvement, evaluating service effectiveness, and applying strong leadership principles to foster a culture of continuous quality improvement and exceptional patient care.
In this role you'll:
Strategic Operations & Patient Care Delivery:
- Direct and evaluate daily departmental operations, resources, and programs to ensure the safe, timely, and cost-effective delivery of patient care, consistently meeting clinical core measurement scores and organizational objectives.
- Develop and implement innovative clinical systems and programs that enhance existing services and elevate patient care standards.
- Monitor, analyze, and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) and benchmarking metrics, collaborating with other departments to optimize overall effectiveness and productivity.
Exceptional Staff Leadership & Development:
- Lead, manage, and evaluate clinical and administrative staff, overseeing recruitment, training, performance management, and competency assessment.
- Ensure optimal staffing levels and foster continuous professional development, providing guidance, counseling, and addressing advanced technical or performance concerns.
- May serve as Residency Program Director, guiding and mentoring the next generation of pharmacy professionals.
Regulatory Compliance & Quality Assurance:
- Guarantee rigorous adherence to all internal policies, professional standards, and external regulatory requirements for clinical operations and documentation.
- Continuously assess services, patient outcomes, quality control, and patient/family satisfaction to ensure optimal care delivery and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Proactively monitor changing regulations, industry practices, and organizational initiatives to advise on impact and implement effective, compliant solutions.
Performance & Quality Improvement Initiatives:
- Drive a culture of continuous improvement by identifying clinical strengths and weaknesses, recommending new quality initiatives, and overseeing timely and effective implementation.
- Ensure staff receive essential training and consultation to enhance understanding and engagement in performance improvement efforts.
Procedure Development & Implementation:
- Develop, implement, and evaluate new or revised procedures, guidelines, and training materials, ensuring alignment with organizational values and regulatory/accreditation standards.
- Ensure comprehensive documentation of all clinical and support activities and monitor adherence to internal guidelines and regulatory requirements.
Strategic Planning & Resource Management:
- Contribute as a key member of the management team to develop strategic initiatives focusing on service expansion, procedural standardization, market growth, resource maximization, and enhanced patient outcomes.
Fiscally Responsible Budget Administration:
- Participate in annual operating/capital budget development and meticulously manage expenditures to achieve cost control objectives.
- Monitor financial performance, identify and resolve negative variances, and provide accurate financial reporting and projections to senior management.
Job Requirements
What you'll bring:
- Education: Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy required. Master's Degree (MBA, MS, MHA, etc.) highly preferred.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 4 years of recent, progressive pharmacy or related healthcare experience.
- Minimum of 2 years in a leadership role, or completion of a pharmacy residency, is strongly preferred.
- Licensure: Active and unrestricted Pharmacist License in good standing within Oregon State.
- Professional Affiliation: Membership in ASHP, ASCP, APHA, and/or other relevant professional associations is highly desirable.

- Team & Performance Management: Exceptional supervisory skills, including setting clear expectations, hiring, coaching, conflict resolution, performance evaluation, and group facilitation.
- Clinical & Operational Acumen: Deep expertise in pharmaceutical technology, distribution, protocol design, drug therapy, disease states, compounding, dispensing, and productivity metrics across diverse clinical settings.
- Regulatory & Quality Expert: In-depth knowledge of pharmacy regulatory requirements, professional standards, quality improvement methodologies, and secure handling of controlled substances. Committed to staying current with industry advancements.
- Strategic & Analytical Thinking: Ability to evaluate medication therapy for clinical appropriateness, propose alternatives, drive continuous operational improvement, and leverage data for strategic planning and service leadership.
- Financial & Budgetary Acumen: Proficient in budget development, monitoring, strategic planning, and performance analysis, including productivity metrics.
- Exceptional Communication & Collaboration: Articulate communicator of complex pharmaceutical information to all stakeholders. Proven ability to build and maintain effective interdisciplinary working relationships.
- Technical Proficiency: Competent in using office equipment, automated systems, and relevant software applications.
CHI St. Anthony Hospital is a 25 bed, licensed for 49, faith-based, acute care, level four trauma, critical access hospital and healthcare campus serving the Pendleton, Oregon area for more than 100 years.
