The posted compensation range of $22.51 - $31.79 /hour is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay CommonSpirit in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting. Responsibilities

Under the guidance of the Market Director of Respiratory Services, established departmental policies and procedures, and specific instructions, the Certified Respiratory Therapist provides care to those suffering from acute and chronic respiratory problems. Maintains patient safety through attention to detail, equipment safety checks, adherence to department policies, and effective communication with physicians, staff and patients. Provides patient orientation, procedure explanation, and pre and post diagnostic care to completion of test. Assists patients with basic patient care needs. 

Position Responsibilities:

  1. Delivers care to individuals in all age categories including geriatric adult and adolescents and  acts as a physician's assistant in consulting on specific patient care for respiratory therapy procedures.
  2. Practices the profession of Respiratory Care as a member of the healthcare team in a manner for which the main consideration is the patients, physicians, peers, visitors and other professionals.
  3. Works in all patient care areas including critical and non-critical locations
  4. Works to reflect the highest achievable quality as defined by departmental and professional standards.
  5. Responsible for performing job duties in accordance with CHI St Luke’s Health Memorial Mission & Vision. 
  6. Participates in hospital/departmental quality projects that enhance their skills and patient care outcomes.
  7. Participates in hospital/departmental educational programs as required.
  8. Accountable for certifications and records required for job.
  9. Will represent CHI St. Luke’s Health in physician, community relations and vendors in a professional/accountable manner.
  10. Administers therapy modalities which include, Hand held Nebulizer (HHN), HHN via metered dose inhaler (HHN/MDI), Intrapulmonary Percussive Ventilation (IPV), Chest Physical Therapy (CPT), Pentamidine therapy.
  11. Administers medical gas therapy including oxygen and Helium-Oxygen Therapy (HeO2. 
  12. Performs ventilation therapies, including maintenance and management of life support systems, comprised of non-invasive and invasive ventilation therapies, as well as transport of ventilator patients to diagnostic procedures.
  13. Performs physiological monitoring and diagnostic testing including, ABG puncture, bronchoscopy assistance, apnea monitoring, capnography, and pulse oximetry.
  14. Performs specialized procedures which include CPR, bronchial lavage, transport, artificial and tracheostomy airway care, and ambulation.
  15. Documents all patient care accurately and completely in the required departmental documentation system.
  16. Serves as resource to respiratory therapists, preceptor for new employees, and respiratory care students.

Qualifications

Education Required

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Completion of a Respiratory Care Degree Program, which is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care

Licensure Required

  • Licensed as a Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) by the Texas Medical Board (TMB
  • Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) with the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
  • BLS certification (through an approved AHA program
  • ACLS certification (through an approved AHA program) *Must be obtained within 90 days of hire &/or transfer into position
