Responsibilities
What you'll do: Do you want to be a healthcare hero behind the scenes? At CHI Health, we're looking for a Monitor Technician-Coronary to join our team! You'll be a key player in keeping our patients safe and well. Here's a peek at what you'll be doing:
- Watch hearts: You'll be the expert eyes on our heart monitors, watching for any changes in patients' heartbeats. This includes patients in the ICU and other parts of the hospital. If something looks off, you'll let the nurses know right away so they can check on the patient.
- Help the team: You'll support our nurses and other staff by covering breaks, helping when someone calls in sick, and making sure everyone has the supplies and information they need to care for patients. You'll also help with getting patients to and from different areas in the hospital.
- Be a super organizer: You'll keep patient charts tidy and updated, order important supplies, and answer phones with a friendly voice. You'll make sure doctors' orders are clear and sent to the right departments.
- Support patients: You might help patients with simple requests, answer their call lights, or safely move them to different rooms or even to their cars when they go home.
- Keep things running: You'll help make sure our special monitoring equipment is clean, working correctly, and ready for the next patient.
Qualifications
- Education and Communication: You must be able to read and write in English. You should also be able to understand and share complex spoken and written instructions. Basic math skills are needed for ordering supplies and calculating heart rates, usually gained by finishing high school.
- Experience: About one to three months of on-the-job training is preferred. This time will help you learn about heart rhythms, how to use central monitors, how to handle written and computer orders, and how our unit operates day-to-day.
- People Skills (Interpersonal Skills): You need to be able to talk politely and effectively with doctors, patients, visitors, clergy, and other healthcare workers to share and get information.
- Problem-Solving Skills (Analytical Skills): You should be able to spot, understand, and report dangerous changes on the heart monitors. You also need to be able to fix simple problems with the monitors. Strong organizational skills are important for managing your work, and for collecting and understanding information when moving or transferring patients.
- Attention to Detail: You must be able to focus and pay close attention for up to 80% of your work time. This includes when you're watching the central monitors, handling orders, answering the phone, and talking with doctors and staff.
- Physical Demands: You should be able to stand and walk for up to 80% of your work time when you're not at the monitoring station. You also need to be able to push or pull up to 200 pounds and lift up to 50 pounds for about 10% of your shift, for tasks like moving patients or equipment.
At CHI Health, we're dedicated to providing the best care for our community. We're a team of caring people who work together to help patients get well and stay healthy. Joining us means becoming part of a healthcare family that values empathy, quality, and a supportive environment. We're a big company with many hospitals and clinics, but we always focus on individual patient care.
Unless directed by a Collective Bargaining Agreement, applications for this position will be considered on a rolling basis. CommonSpirit Health cannot anticipate the date by which a successful candidate may be identified.
