Responsibilities

The technologist will provide excellent service to the patients of the Ultraound Department, the physicians, fellow employees and hospital staff.

Essential Functions

Essential Function

Displays a thorough knowledge of cross sectional anatomy and positioning as it relates to performance of procedures.

Displays competency in operating equipment and teleradiology transmissions.

Always produces high quality sonograms. Exams are performed in a timely fashion, minimizing patient wait times.

Practices good sterile technique when required and utilizes universal precautions and other infection control practices as appropriate.

Maintains orderliness and cleanliness of work area and assures that rooms are stocked with necessary supplies. Orders and maintains supplies at an acceptable level.

Initiates service calls /repairs on all equipment as needed in the absence of a supervisor

Places orders in the patient care system and makes all corrections and cancellations as necessary.

Active member of committee(s) or collaborative teams as required by duties.

Maintains equipment in good operating order. Troubleshoots equipment and cooperates with service personnel in order to minimize downtime.

Establishes and accurately maintains exams in PACS. Provides documentation stating the reasons the exams are being done. Initials all images signifying they performed the exam.

Interviews patients for pertinent medical history obtains consents on patients prior to performing studies.

Takes evening, weekend, and holiday stand-by on a rotating basis.

Understands Advanced Beneficiary Notice (ABN) policy. Demonstrates familiarity with CMS. ABN form and knows how to complete form appropriately.

Participates in ongoing quality assurance activities.

Maintains established departmental policies and procedures.

Acts as a resource and role model for students, externs and new staff members.

Maintains Ultrasound QC and QA programs.

Able to function in the role of charge technologist when needed.

Assumes responsibility for personal, professional development and continuing education by attending departmental meetings, hospital events and classes, etc.

Participates in development activities and contributes ideas to facilitate improving patient care, unit operations, and organization processes and systems in support of individual unit/department.

Collaborates to develop educational objectives, goals and action plans for the department and/or peers within area of expertise.

Demonstrates the ability to effectively work with various end users to effectively provide the needed information and training.

Provides excellent customer service to internal and external customers making a positive first impression.

Responsible for inventory, ordering and distribution of technical and office supplies.

Responds to telephone inquiries quickly, appropriately and in a manner that addresses the needs of the caller. Transfers calls to appropriate point of contact when necessary.

Maintains imaging quality: Excelling (3) = < 30 QC notes annually; Achieving (2) = < 40 QC notes annually; Developing (1) = 41 55 QC notes annually; Needs Improvement (0) = > 55 QC notes annually.

Procedural Time Out: All element must be completed: Rating: 3 = All characteristic of TIME Out completed = Excelling, 2 = , 1 = , 0 = Goals not met if below 100% = Needs Improvement

Practices patient safety by using two patient identifiers Excelling (3) = 100% of the time & participates in team education or monitoring of safety; Achieving (2) = 100% of the time; Needs Improvement (0) = Less than 100% of the time.

Outpatient satisfaction: Department goal to achieve or exceed overall patient satisfaction scores in Avatar for Imaging Services. Rating: 3 = 94%-excelling at 3 points, 2 = 93%-achieving at 2 points, 1 = 91-92%-developing at 1 point, 0 = < 90%-needs improvement

Patient satisfaction modality role-up: Department goal to achieve or exceed overall patient satisfaction scores in Avatar for Imaging Services. Rating: 3 = 94%-excelling at 3 points, 2 = 93%-achieving at 2 points, 1 = 91-92%-developing at 1 point, 0 = < 90%-needs improvement

Provides for patient safety and responds accordingly. Alerts appropriate staff of change in condition and or potential dangers.

Remains focused by prioritizing workflow based on patient acuity, physician availability and equipment availability.

Displays competency in performing high level disinfection of equipment as required by position.

Educates patient, family and others as appropriate in regards to the procedure the patient may be having. Provides the necessary documentation as appropriate.


Qualifications

Requirements:

High School Diploma

Five (5) years Ultrasound Technologist experience.

Basic knowledge of department and hospital information systems. Basic computer skills including MS Office Suites. Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills.

ARDMS registered in at least Abdomen or OB/GYN subspeciality.
