Responsibilities

Job Summary:

Operates nuclear detection and imaging equipment and prepares radiopharmaceuticals for nuclear radiologic studies to provide the physician diagnostic images of the structure and function of the heart or other organs and body structures to identify and/or plan appropriate treatment for the patient’s condition.  Incumbents use a gamma scintillation camera, or scanning imaging devices to monitor the characteristics and functions of tissues or organs in which the administered radiopharmaceutical drugs localize.  Work is performed under the strict safety/regulatory/license departmental standards and protocols.

Incumbents are also accountable for maintaining quality control for all imaging equipment and radioactivity assaying devices and maintaining their knowledge of the frequent technological and innovative changes in the field of nuclear medicine through participating in continuing education, seminars, meetings and in-services.

Essential Duties:

  • Prepares equipment for imaging tests, based on physicians’ orders and in adherence to department safeguards and protocols to ensure quality results.
  • Prepares patient and performs nuclear medicine procedures.
  • Maintains records and logs as required by department protocols and licensure requirements.
  • Disposes of and stores radioactive materials as required by law.
  • Performs incidental general office duties to include; answering phone; scheduling; filing; maintaining patient records; ordering supplies.

Qualifications

Education/Experience:

Graduation from an accredited Nuclear Medicine Technologist program resulting in an associate's degree or bachelor’s degree.  

License/Certification:

  • Washington State certification as a Radiologic Technologist. 
  • Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) or American Registry of Radiological Technologist (ARRT) (N).
  • Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS certification.
