Responsibilities

Job Summary:

A Research Technician I position is available starting from September 2025 for a highly motivated candidate in the laboratory of Dr. Scozzi MD-PhD at the Norton Thoracic Institute Phoenix Arizona. The Scozzi laboratory studies the immunological mechanisms that drive early lung transplant injury and impact long-term graft survival. By integrating biological samples from human lung transplant recipients with pre-clinical models of ischemia-reperfusion injury the candidate will contribute to translational research exploring how neutrophil heterogeneity and immunometabolic regulation influence both early and late graft outcomes. The Scozzi laboratory seeks to advance knowledge in the field of transplant immunology with the final goal of improving lung transplant recipients quality of life and survival. 

Job Duties:

  • Assist in developing and performing pre-clinical models of lung ischemia- reperfusion injury.
  •  Assist with research studies experiments and assays including data collection solutions preparation and equipment set-up and maintenance. 
  • Perform data entry and maintains data files on research. • Prepare tissue cultures reagents probe tests (etc.). 
  • Comply with established safety procedures and maintains required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions.
  • Ensure lab conditions and equipment are properly cleaned and maintained in accordance with established procedures.
  • Miscellaneous duties including but not limited to assisting with general lab maintenance and cleaning coordinating equipment repairs ordering and shipping. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned. Working Conditions This position works in a laboratory environment with potential biological and chemical hazards exposure

The candidate must be physically able to wear protective equipment and provide standard care to research pre-clinical models.


Qualifications

Minimum:

Education and Experience:

Experience in a research laboratory or equivalent is required.

Experience as an intern or student research technician is preferred.

Must have excellent math skills and fundamental knowledge and background in the biological sciences. 

Special Skills:

  • Basic knowledge of comparative and surgical anatomy
  • Ability and willingness to work with pre-clinical models. 
  • Ability and willingness to handle human biological specimens.
  • Excellent basic laboratory organizational and record-keeping skills. 
  • Ability to maintain complete and organized records/reports. 
  • Familiarity with computer software (Excel PowerPoint Word Outlook).
  • Ability to work independently and communicate with laboratory staff and investigators. 
  • Performs laboratory administrative functions such as scheduling common equipment purchasing/maintaining contracts on equipment and procedures for record-keeping systems.
