Responsibilities

Position Summary:

As the Director of Pharmacy for Northridge Hospital Medical Center, you will be responsible for the oversight and coordination of daily Pharmacy Services operations in accordance with standards of practice, organizational policies/standards, procedures and applicable regulatory requirements.

In this role you will be tasked with meeting financial objectives in labor, revenue and gross margins, implementing performance improvement initiatives,  evaluating department effectiveness in meeting clinical/service expectations, and troubleshooting pharmaceutical care issues. 

The work you will do will require knowledge of the concepts, professional standards, and methodologies applicable to the pharmaceutical care, and of applicable regulatory requirements sufficient to ensure quality and compliant patient care. You will need to exercise judgment and critical thinking in resolving complex issues, and apply solid principles of leadership, human relations and continuous quality improvement in the overall management, coordination, and refinement of our pharmaceutical care services.

Qualifications
Required Education and Experience: 
  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy required.
  • Minimum of 4 years of recent pharmacy (or similar) work experience required.
  • Demonstrated change management, standardization and leadership development skills required.
  • Demonstrated ability to create enthusiasm for new programs and different approaches to existing programs required.
  • Demonstrated quality improvement competencies required.
  • Demonstrated understanding of utilization and productivity in a variety of clinical settings required.
Required Licensure: 
  • Active CA State Pharmacist License in good standing required.
Required Skills and Training: 
  • Knowledge of current pharmaceutical technology, including distribution, protocol design, monitoring, intervention and provision of pharmaceutical care.
  • Knowledge of the standards and regulatory requirements applicable to the pharmaceutical care profession.
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices and regulatory requirements pertaining to management of subordinate staff.
  • Knowledge of the methods and techniques used to securely store narcotics and other controlled substances sufficient to ensure the security of the area.
  • Knowledge of major medication therapy, drug-drug interactions, and disease states.
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, standards and techniques relating to the compounding and dispensing of medicinal drugs.
  • Knowledge of the concepts and methods for analyzing and enhancing performance and productivity of the assigned work unit.
  • Knowledge of effective methods for budget development and monitoring, and for strategic planning.
  • Knowledge of infection control, safety and risk management standards as relates to the pharmacy setting.
  • Ability to evaluate the clinical appropriateness of medication therapy, and to formulate/present therapeutic alternatives to physicians, pharmacists, nurses and pharmacy assistants.
  • Ability to evaluate ongoing pharmacy operations and develop methods for continuous improvement.
  • Ability to utilize an effective mix of research, analysis, expert opinion, and committee group process to develop and lead pharmaceutical services.
  • Ability to develop and implement policies and procedures to support the patient care needs of a regional pharmaceutical service.
  • Ability to demonstrate effective supervisory skills, including developing clear performance expectations, hiring, coaching, conflict management, evaluating, resolving performance problems, and group facilitation.
  • Ability to effectively communicate pharmaceutical care information to patients, physicians, and other medical staff.
  • Ability to keep abreast of trends, developments and regulatory requirements impacting matters within designated scope of responsibility.
  • Ability to read, understand and communicate in English sufficient to perform the duties of the position.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as required by the duties of the position.
  • Ability to use office equipment and automated systems/applications/software at an acceptable level.
