Responsibilities

Job Summary:

Performs inventory control activities to provide a wide variety of medical supplies/materials in a timely, efficient and cost-effective manner for the assigned Franciscan Health System (FHS) perpetual inventories in accordance with professional standards and established internal procedures.
Work includes initiating/controlling the amount/type of supply acquisitions, reviewing incoming supplies to avoid duplication and control overstocking, and implementing effective par leveling to facilitate rapid turnover of products. Work also includes responsibility for running appropriate reports in order to identify supply issues that need addressing and, where appropriate, presenting solutions and reporting metrics to management.
Work requires general knowledge of inventory management systems/procedures as they relate to healthcare facilities. An incumbent follows established channels of communication in handling routine and non-routine problems, and recognizing issues that need referral to management.
Given the variety, complexity and cost of medical supplies/equipment, the opportunity for positive financial impact to the organization through the application of effective inventory practices and on-timing ordering strategies is significant.


Essential Duties:


Maintains and controls materials management medical supply/materials inventory and order points, to ensure appropriate quantity products are on hand and available for immediate distribution ensuring no duplication or overstocks.


Collaborates regularly with various FHS departments (e.g. nursing, Lab, Perioperative Svcs, Interventional Radiology, GI and Cath Labs, etc) to convey information related to PAR levels/supplies needs, materials management standards and procedures, and to promote effective cost accountability and troubleshoot emergent issues.


Uses an automated inventory control and par leveling system in serving as point-person for the ordering, receiving and stocking/restocking of medical supplies/equipment under the scope of the materials management function.
Maintains related records/documentation; prepares standard reports for management’s review.


Identifies opportunities to reduce costs through the manipulation of par levels, reorder points/min/max, reduction of holding costs.

Qualifications

Education/Work Experience Requirements:


A minimum of two years of clerical work experience that demonstrates attainment of the requisite job knowledge skills/abilities.


Two years of related work experience in a Material Management function (e.g. inventory, distribution, etc.) is strongly preferred.
