CHI Health Midlands is a 131-bed acute care hospital located in Papillion, Nebraska, serving Sarpy County and surrounding communities. Responsibilities

The Vice President of Patient Care Services plays a vital leadership role in advancing the mission and vision of CHI Health and Commonspirit by serving as the designated administrative leader for programs and services within the community. This individual is responsible for planning, organizing, implementing, and directing resources across assigned operational areas. As a visible and ethical leader, the VP serves as a role model for values-based management and fosters an environment grounded in the Mission, Vision, Pledge, and Commitments of CHI Health.

This position holds direct accountability for nursing practice on the assigned campus and collaborates closely with medical staff, ancillary services, community leaders, agencies, and payors to fulfill strategic goals for the defined service population. A key focus of this role is building and sustaining strong relationships with physicians and staff to drive improvements in patient experience, physician engagement, and employee satisfaction. This role offers the opportunity to help lead the shift toward a more ambulatory-focused care model, with significant autonomy in managing resources and operations across that setting.

The VP of Patient Care Services also maintains direct operational oversight for specific departments and programs on their assigned campus. Additional direct or consultative responsibilities may be delegated as needed to support campus operations. The incumbent also carries matrix management accountability for all nursing care areas within the hospital, regardless of reporting structure. In support of enterprise strategy, the VP partners closely with service line leaders, providing consultative leadership and coordination to advance key objectives and ensure alignment across the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversees systems for collecting and evaluating patient and staff data to support nursing practice and clinical decision-making.

  • Develops and monitors organizational planning and nursing care delivery systems to ensure quality outcomes and alignment with strategic goals.

  • Fosters a diverse, inclusive, and professional environment aligned with CommonSpirit Health’s core values, collaborating across disciplines and leadership levels.

  • Supports and integrates nursing research into practice and administration.

  • Manages human and financial resources, including staffing allocation and shared governance, to meet organizational and patient care needs.

  • Participates in the credentialing process for advanced practice nurses.

  • Ensures compliance with safety, security, and infection control programs.

  • Leads all aspects of team management, including hiring, training, performance evaluation, and day-to-day supervision.

  • Manages staff performance through goal setting, feedback, coaching, and corrective action aligned with organizational commitments.

  • Completes performance reviews and, where needed, coordinates peer reviews to validate clinical competence.

  • Adheres to and promotes safety and regulatory policies; evaluates personal performance based on professional and organizational standards.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by leadership.


Qualifications

Education

  • Master’s or Post-Graduate Degree 

Licensure and Certifications

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in practicing state

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • If working in or traveling to Iowa, or working in a Behavioral Health/Psych unit:

    Must complete Mandatory Reporter – Adult and Mandatory Reporter – Child training within 6 months (tracked through Learning system)
  • Strong knowledge and experience with Ambulatory services including Ancillary services
  • Service Line growth operations management
  • Change Management 
  • Strong with physician/ provider relationship 

Preferred:

  • Strong knowledge and application of nursing practice and systems framework

  • Excellent strategic thinking abilities

  • Demonstrated strength in resource management and stewardship

  • Strong understanding of total quality management and continuous quality improvement concepts
