Responsibilities
  • Administers Physical Therapy treatments or portions thereof, as planned and directed by a registered Physical Therapist, to a patient population with varied diagnoses. Age range treated includes pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric. Staff will be assigned only age ranges for which they meet education, experience and training.
  • Assists the Physical Therapist in the performance of complex tests and treatment procedures.
  • Follows established procedures in the use of physical treatment modalities, therapeutic exercise and the use of adaptive equipment, utilizing evidenced based practice as appropriate.
  • Provides patient/family/Care Partner/caregiver education, initiating as soon as feasible after admission. Works to ensure patient/family/Care Partner/caregiver transfer of knowledge using a variety of techniques (i.e. teach back, demonstration, video, written handouts).

Qualifications
  • The primary role of the Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) is to provide quality patient care and Physical Therapy treatments, as planned and directed by a registered Physical Therapist. Responsibilities include patient treatment and documentation of care.
  • The PTA reports verbally and in writing on a patient's response to treatment.
  • PTA's assigned patients ranging in age from pediatric to geriatrics.
  • Assignments are dependent on the specific experience, training and demonstrated competence of the assistant and the needs of the patients.
  • The PTA is expected to develop their clinical skills with ultimate responsibility for assuming clinical competency.
