The posted compensation range of $41.14 - $61.20 /hour is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay CommonSpirit in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting. CommonSpirit may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range as permitted by law.

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Ultrasound Tech, you will perform high-quality diagnostic ultrasound examinations, providing essential imaging for accurate diagnoses and patient care.

Every day you will perform diverse ultrasound procedures on various patient populations, using advanced equipment. You'll prepare patients, acquire/process optimal images, recognize/document pathology, and provide preliminary findings. Maintaining equipment, adhering to safety protocols, and collaborating with radiologists are key.

To be successful, you will possess strong technical proficiency in ultrasound, a deep understanding of anatomy/physiology/pathology, and meticulous attention to detail. Excellent communication for patient/team interaction and a commitment to diagnostic accuracy/patient safety are essential.

  • Performs ultrasound procedures for evaluation by the physician. Applies knowledge of ultrasonography to perform studies of major body systems based on age, size, or disorder of patient for evaluation by physician. Consults with referring physicians regarding which types of exams are possible with regard to specific pathological conditions based on age, size or disorder of patient to obtain high quality images. Obtains images of internal organs with ultrasound techniques. Selects the appropriate operating mode based on age, size or disorder of patient.
  • Interacts with coworkers and staff from other departments in a positive manner to deliver quality patient care.
  • Based on the age, disorder, education, psychological needs, and size of the patient, makes adjustments to the type of transducer, patient education, time taken for the procedure, patient restraints, patient comfort.
  • Recognizes abnormal conditions and adjusts recording techniques to obtain appropriate display based on age, size or disorder of patient. Monitors patient condition including pediatric, adult, geriatric and adolescent age groups to preclude adverse reactions. Reviews and evaluates completed tests for quality.
  • Checks the patient history to anticipate effects of previous surgery, childbirth and other conditions, which could affect the ultrasonic image of the area of interest. Explains the procedure to the patient so that they understand what is being done. Reviews the pertinent patient clinical history and any current clinical information relative to the procedure to obtain optimum diagnostic outcomes.
  • Increases efficiency of workflow by sending images to PACS and completing billing and scanning of paperwork in a timely manner. Checks PACS for completeness of work.

The Ultrasound Technologist is responsible for the independent operation of ultrasound equipment to perform and communicate the results of diagnostic examinations.

The Ultrasound Technologist is responsible for the daily operations of the ultrasound department, including managing the patient schedule that includes inpatients, outpatients, and ER patients.

The Ultrasound Technologist is responsible for producing high-quality images of the area of interest based on the available clinical information and the physician's order. The Ultrasound Technologist is responsible for daily equipment monitoring to ensure performance and for initiating calls for service when equipment issues are identified.

The Ultrasound Technologist maintains a high standard of medical ethics and is self-motivated to increase the level of understanding and knowledge of disease processes and new procedures as they evolve.

The Ultrasound Technologist should be able to perform their job functions independently, with minimal need for oversight and or correction by leadership. On-call services are required.


Job Requirements

Required:

  • A graduate of a formal diagnostic medical ultrasound program and/or 1 year of on-the-job experience in diagnostic medical ultrasound, upon hire, and
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support - CPR certificate, upon hire

One of the following to be obtained upon hire or within 12 months of hire:

  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, or
  • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer, or
  • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer Adult Echo, or
  • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer Fetal Echo, or
  • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer Pediatric Echo, or
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Abdomen, or
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Breast, or
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Fetal Echo, or
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Neurosonology, or
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer OB/GYN, or
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Pediatric Sono, or
  • Registered Cardiac Electr (RCES), or
  • Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist, or
  • Registered Cardiac Sonographer CCI, or
  • Registered Technologist Computed Tomography, or
  • Registered Technologist Radiography ARRT, or
  • Registered Vascular Specialist, or
  • Registered Vascular Technologist
