The posted compensation range of $32.23 - $40.27 /hour is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay CommonSpirit in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting. Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Surgical Tech, you will help prepare the operating room and surgical team so they can successfully perform a variety of surgical procedures for patients.

Every day you will set up surgical equipment and instruments, assist the surgical team, and ensure a sterile environment. You will be expected to adapt quickly, collaborate effectively within the OR team, and contribute directly to the patient's healing process.

To be successful in this role, you must possess adaptability, a strong team-player mindset, and enthusiasm for supporting complex surgical procedures.

  • Maintains a safe, therapeutic work environment at all times and identifies and addresses problems to the appropriate departments. Adheres to the principles of infection control, including medical and surgical asepsis and isolation techniques. Demonstrates aseptic technique when required in the performance of job duties.
  • Demonstrates awareness of professional responsibility by being a role model for peers while maintaining practice within The Patient's Bill of Rights and DH Core Values. Adheres to DH standards and Behaviors by promoting teamwork and a positive work environment, model cooperative behavior and act in a professional manner and uses effective lines of communication. Participates in problem solving processes in which unit based problems are identified and a plan is made and implemented for correction. Functions as an effective resource for peers and other staff. Contributes to cost effectiveness by adhering to staffing patterns and appropriate utilization of other resources. Adapts well to changes, seeks clarification when necessary. Participates in the precepting of new staff members.
  • Develop, maintain and improve skills specific to job role. Actively participates in setting personal goals annually and submits plan to attaining goals. Attends 50% or more of team meetings and all mandatory in-services. Follows policies with regard to tardiness, attendance, dress code and use of time
  • Plans and prepares for assigned cases by, but not limited to, reviewing assignments at earliest available time, reviewing pertinent literature, preference cards, manufacturer information, discussing with company representative, discussing with surgeon and by collaborating with knowledgeable peers. Making sure all supplies and equipment are available for assigned cases. Understands and maintains aseptic technique and proper cleaning , disinfecting and sterilizing technique as identified in departmental policies and procedures. Identifies any break in technique immediately verbalizing and correcting the problem. Follows universal precautions. Sets in motion the planning and preparation according to daily assignment by: Respecting patients' rights for privacy and confidentiality. Ensuring preference cards are kept up to date by effective communication with staff who input preference cards. Using supplies judiciously and in a cost-effective manner. Reviewing preference card and prepare self for surgical procedure. Handling surgical specimens accurately, following departmental policy. Operates and maintains equipment and supplies following departmental policies and/or manufacturer's recommendations. Handles instruments and equipment in proper manner to preserve integrity of instrument or equipment. Reports the need for repairs to the materials office, supervisor or starts process to request maintenance repair. Assists with orientation and training of OR personnel by serving as a preceptor to new personnel, as well as for long term personnel increasing skills, by answering questions, demonstrating a task and supporting them while performing a task, as assigned. Provides assistance to surgeon with efficient scrub skills. Anticipates surgeon needs. Maintains organized sterile table and mayo stand Certified Surgical Technologists have the knowledge and experience to perform the task of operating the skin stapler will operate the skin stapler under the direction and supervision of the surgeon.

Job Requirements

Required

  • High School Graduate General Studies or 2 years equivalent experience. , upon hire or
  • High School GED General Studies or 2 years equivalent experience. , upon hire and
  • graduate of an accredited surgical tech school and 0-2 yrs experience, upon hire
  • Basic Life Support - CPR, upon hire and


Preferred

  • Certified Surgical Technologist, upon hire or
  • Technologist in Surgery-Certified, upon hire

Please be advised that this location requires quarterly American Heart Association (AHA) Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) competency certification post-hire. This ongoing competency is required through resources internal to the facility; outside RQI competency resources are not acceptable for CommonSpirit Health compliance requirements.
