Overview

Supports the mission and vision of CHI Health by performing accurate and skilled blood collection procedures. Conducts all related duties as a professional member of the health care team. Performs various clerical and specimen processing duties.


Responsibilities
  1. Transports, collects, receives and prepares biological specimens for all age groups of patients for analysis using procedures consistent with safe work practices and proper laboratory techniques, while maintaining the integrity of specimens.
  2. Organizes and prioritizes workload by LEAN principles for the most efficient, accurate, and timely collection and processing of specimens in order to meet quality standards of laboratory testing.
  3. Uses appropriate customer service skills (cordial, positive attitude, helpfulness) in encounters with patients, families of patients, visitors, and other members of the health care team that result in high levels of customer satisfaction for the organization.
  4. If required by facility, performs patient testing, maintenance, daily quality control, testing of proficiency samples for bedside monitors and records results in Laboratory information system.
  5. Ensures accurate and timely registration of reference lab patients.
  6. Follow up and investigation into medical necessity, diagnosis and order clarification as appropriate.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience 

High School diploma or GED

Required Licensure and Certifications

None for all campuses except:

CHI CUMC Bergan 222105866: Valid Driver’s License

CHI Good Samaritan: Valid Driver’s License

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Training

Detail oriented and strong customer service skills

Preferred

Phlebotomy certification or completion of a phlebotomy course
