Responsibilities

Role:

The Surgical Technician Lead serves as a lead for multiple surgical specialties.  The incumbent communicates closely with and supports the Perioperative Services Charge RN and management team regarding daily operations of each specialty area within Perioperative Services.  This position is responsible for coordinating the care of patients in a defined care team and is accountable to the Perioperative Services Charge RN in carrying out patient care.  This position is accountable for the planning and delivery of quality patient care in partnership with the Perioperative Services Charge RN, physician, interdisciplinary team and patient/family.

Provides, as an integral part of the medical practitioner team, surgical care to patients to facilitate safe and effective completion of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures. Under the guidance of surgeons, nurses, or other designated personnel, the incumbent performs preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative duties within the scope of licensure to ensure that the operating room or environment is safe, that equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety. 

Incumbents are also accountable for utilizing and keeping current on the application of sterile and aseptic technique, surgical procedures, implementation tools and technologies, human anatomy as well as collaborating and communicating effectively with the interdisciplinary team to facilitate a physician's performance of invasive and therapeutic procedures.


Qualifications

Job Requirements: 

Graduation from surgical technology program accredited through Accreditation Review Council on Education in Surgical Technology ARC-ST.   

Graduation from an accredited school of nursing may be substituted for graduation from an accredited surgical technician program. 

Two years of work experience in the clinical specialty within the last three years is preferred.  Previous lead tech experience is preferred.

If classified as Surgical Technician:  Maintain Registration with the State of Washington.  Registered nurses and/or practical nurses acting within the scope of their licensure do not need to maintain surgical technologist registration.   

If classified as Surgical Technician, Certified: Current certification through the Association of Surgical Technologists is required.

Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS certification.
