Overview

The Manager Maternal Program will have srategic and operational responsibility for the Maternal Program. Assists in promoting optimal care to the pregnant and immediately postpartum patient through clinical activities, professional and public education, injury prevention, and quality improvement and patient safety. The Program Manager acts as a resource person to all patient care areas regarding nursing care as related to the pregnant and immediately postpartum patient. Functions as a liaison for maternal care by maintaining effective lines of communication with all concerned parties. The Maternal Program Manager in conjunction with the Maternal Medical Director is responsible for overall management of the Maternal program. The Maternal Program Manager will actively participate in the development of a regionalized maternal care system.

Since 2008 our experienced doctors nurses and support staff have provided expert care to support our community.


Responsibilities

1. Quality Improvement: Coordinates and facilitates the review of the maternal patients to identify high risk admissions,
deaths and transfers. Coordinates and facilitates the Maternal program quality review. Coordinates necessary education to improve maternal care. Reviews maternal patient care for all patients meeting quality indicators. Ensures the standard quality of care is being delivered for all maternity patients. Completes quality review in a timely manner. Oversees the performance improvement and patient safety plan.

2. Financial Responsibilities: Reviews high risk patient accounts for appropriate charge entry. Coordinates billing review to assure appropriate account usage.3. Professional development; Educational: Participates in professional state organizations as required for maternal designation. Maintains BLS,ACLS, NRP, current AWOHNN Fetal Heart Monitor training

4. Maintains the maternal care orientation/education program for entire facility. Maintains the facility as designation requires, meeting all standards of care, quality reviews, and community education.

5. Data: Ensures accurate data is accumulated for administrative reporting.

6. Privacy: Assures privacy of all patient information to protect patient rights and meet HIPPA guidelines. Reports suspected violations immediately.

7. Environment; Patient Safety: Maintains patient and work environment to maximize safe working space. Promptly removes all used and soiled equipment, linen, etc. to appropriate location. BMV scanning rates comply with current policy. Reports all patient safety and hazard concerns immediately.

8. Community Outreach and Education: Participates in community activities and public education. Reports patient follow-up to the maternal program of any transferring hospital.

9. Supplies: Maintains accurate documentation of charges and supplies used to ensure adequate supply replacement and efficient use of allocated funds.

10. Time Management: Clocks in and out according to policy to ensure work is started and completed on time and to lead by example. Obtains Director/designee/House Supervisor approval before working overtime shifts.

11. Meeting/In-service Attendance:  Attends in-services, workshops, and reads current journals to keep abreast of new developments in the medical and nursing fields. Attends 6 unit meetings per year, all mandatory in-services, and completes annual competencies. Attends other meetings as designated by Director.

12. Performs other duties as assigned to meet the organizations needs.


Qualifications

Minimum Education & Experience Required:

• RN (Registered Nurse)
• ACLS, NPR and current Fetal Heart Monitor Training

• Bachelor’s degree and minimum of 3 years leadership experience

OR
• Minimum of 5 years leadership experience in the discipline
OR
• Master’s Degree


Required Minimum knowledge, Skills & Abillities:

Labor and Delivery:

  • Validation is required for the skills needed in the following areas of care: Triage, Antepartum, Labor, Vaginal Delivery, OR Circulation, C-Section Recovery, Recovery, Transition and Couplet Care.
  • Validation is required for the skills needed to operate: Cardiac Monitor; Glucometer; Oxygen Flow Meter; Pulse Oximeter; Infusion Pumps; Defibrillator; Emergency Cart; Radiant Warmer; PCA Pump; Phototherapy Equipment (Bili Lights/Bili Meter) and Transport Incubator.
  • BLS, ACLS, AWHONN Fetal Monitoring, and NRP
Transition:
  • Validation is required for the skills needed in the following areas of care: Care and stabilization of the Neonate; care of Infant with hypoglycemia; knowledge of IDM, SGA, AGA and LGA protocols; Cardiac/respiratory monitoring and management; Intravenous management; care of normal newborn; and Gastrointestinal management (NG/OG tubes, bottle & assist with breast feeding).
  • Validation is required for the skills needed to operate: Cardiac Monitor; Glucometer; Oxygen Flow Meter; Pulse Oximeter; Infusion Pumps; Defibrillator; Emergency Cart; thermoregulation of neonate (Radiant Warmer, Open Crib & Isolette); Phototherapy Equipment (Bili Lights/Bili Meter) and Transport Incubator.
  • BLS and NRP

Mother/Baby:
  • Validation is required for the skills needed in the following areas of care: Couplet Care; post partum care of mother; and care of newborn.
  • Validation is required for the skills needed to operate: Cardiac Monitor, Glucometer, Oxygen Flow Meter, Pulse Oximeter, Infusion Pumps, Defibrillator, Emergency Cart, Radiant Warmer, PCA Pump, Phototherapy Equipment (Bili Lights/Bili Meter) and Transport Incubator.
  • BLS and NRP
