Responsibilities

Applies Dignity Core Values to the performance of every job duty. These Values include Dignity Collaboration Justice Stewardship and Excellence. Is responsible for performing duties in accordance with the philosophy and standards of SMMC under the direction and supervision of the RN. The MHC is responsible for gathering physiologic and behavioral data providing therapeutic interventions and emotional support for patients. The MHC is responsible for leading behaviorally and process oriented therapy groups. The MHC is also responsible for making psychodynamic observations based on social learning theory. The MHC is part of the treatment team and participates in developing treatment plans. The MHC will assist in running the milieu based on a solid theoretical framework of milieu therapy including psychodynamic behavioral and crisis intervention theory. Qualifications

Experience

Must have demonstrated effective interpersonal and leadership skills. Second language skills preferred. Demonstrated ability to work in a stressful environment. Demonstrated ability to educate and motivate staff to improve skills. Must possess a strong theoretical base in developmental systemic and cognitive-behavioral therapy.

Education

Masters Degree from an accredited college or university in social work psychology nursing human development or other related health field. Relevant post-graduate education (18 months/27 units) from an accredited college or university may be substituted if the curriculum is comparable (developmental theory psychopathology clinical theory.)

Licensure

Must have a current BLS for the health care provider certification. Certifications must be issued by the American Heart Association (AHA).

Special Skills

Must have leadership ability and good communication and interpersonal skills. Physical ability and flexibility to participate in physical restraint of patients. An ability to read write speak and understand the English language without difficulty.

Training

Aggression management training.

Complete annual safety training. Complete and maintain department specific training
