Responsibilities
Research Scientist – Translational Bioinformatics
The Multimodal Imaging Genetics Lab at Barrow Neuro Analytics Center is in search of a talented and motivated computational biologist to join our dynamic team. Our lab employs cutting-edge bioinformatics and machine learning, including deep learning, to understand brain aging and secondary injury mechanisms across cerebrovascular, neurodegenerative, and traumatic brain diseases.
As a Bioinformatics Staff Scientist, you will be responsible for conducting and supervising analysis of large-scale, high-dimensional biological data from biobanks and longitudinal cohorts, and developing innovative computational methods to enhance understanding of cerebrovascular and Alzheimer’s disease interactions, and drive development of mechanism-based treatments for dementia. You will play pivotal roles in performing bioinformatics analysis on high-throughput genomics (including single cell) and proteomics data, integration and analysis of multi-omics data, development and application of computational algorithms and statistical models for data analysis and interpretation, and development of data analysis pipelines.
Candidates should hold a PhD in Genetics, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, or a related field. Preference is given to those with strong expertise and experience in NGS and multi-omics data analysis, and statistical learning (supervised and unsupervised). Proficiency in programming with R, Unix/Linux, and/or Python, and experience with bioinformatics tools and databases (e.g. Ensemble, UCSC Genome Browser) are highly desired.
We seek a self-driven, innovative individual with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, and exceptional communication skills. Salary will be competitive and based upon qualifications and experience.
Qualifications
Strong expertise in analyzing next-generation sequencing (NGS) data and multi-omics data integration.
Proven ability to support research programs. Expertise and experience in large-scale genetics and omics data analysis
Three (3) years or equivalent of researchrelated experience following the Ph.D. degree.
Experience with bioinformatics tools and databases.
Education
Ph.D. in Genetics, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or a related field.
Special Skills
Solid computer skills. Proficient in MS Office and Google
Specialized computer analysis program experience
