Responsibilities

The Pharmacy Intern II receives functional guidance from the licensed pharmacists s/he is scheduled to work with. The level of supervision given varies with the Interns' degree of skill. A cooperative working relationship with pharmacists is essential which assures that priority requirements of the department are met through proper allocation of resources. The intern completes a variety of procedures some of which are essential to departmental operations and are fixed while others are related to area of function and patient census or workload. The Pharmacy Intern has ability to read and interpret physician orders/prescriptions enter then into a pharmacy computer system and prepare medications for pharmacists. The Intern will use nonsterile technique for compounding and must be comfortable with pharmaceutical calculations. Must have the ability to efficiently manage inventory and enter data into a computer system. The Intern will be familiar with medical terminology and pharmaceutical product names. Assists pharmacist in training and continuing education of the technician staff. The Intern must demonstrate ability to work with others. Has a basic understanding of computer systems and how they are used in health systems and outpatient pharmacy. Required to be competent in pharmaceutical care for all ages. The intern must be have applicable pharmacy knowledge to perform patient consultation.

Qualifications

Minimum:

High school diploma/GED
A minimum of one year hospital pharmacy or related experience or a graduate of a certified pharmacy technology program
Arizona Pharmacy Technician License
Typing speed 35 wpm
Basic CRT knowledge
Good communication skills
Ability to work as a team member
Knowledge of drug names and basic math
