The posted compensation range of $36.94 - $53.56 /hour is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay CommonSpirit in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting. Job Summary and Responsibilities

As a Perintatal Safety Specialist RN), you will be a pivotal healthcare professional, delivering compassionate, high-quality care that truly impacts our patients' well-being and recovery.

Every day, you will leverage your expertise to provide individualized, comprehensive care, making critical assessments, performing skilled procedures, and meticulously implementing patient care plans. You'll collaborate seamlessly within an interdisciplinary team, contributing to a dynamic environment focused on optimal patient outcomes.

To thrive in this vital role, The Perinatal Safety Specialist, reporting to the Director of Perinatal Services, leads the implementation, promotion, and oversight of perinatal patient safety and quality initiatives. This specialized nursing role integrates clinical expertise with a patient safety focus, ensuring high-quality care for pregnant individuals and their families. The specialist drives quality improvement, enhances perinatal care processes and outcomes, and fosters a culture of safety within the healthcare facility, with a primary focus on safe care for mothers and babies in all unit operations.

  • Clinical Standards & Patient Advocacy:Ensures adherence to national clinical standards and safety practices in Maternal Child Health. Acts as a patient safety advocate and clinical role model in perinatal obstetrics.
  • Perinatal Safety Initiatives:Keeps staff informed on current Perinatal Safety Initiatives, including education and policy. Stays updated on national and CommonSpirit Health perinatal safety standards. Disseminates relevant safety information and participates in safety rounding. Presents concerns to clinical forums.
  • Performance Improvement & Event Management:Contributes to performance review, identifies issues, assists with data gathering, and supports the healthcare team during adverse events. Develops education/action plans for events reported in the event system.
  • Patient Safety & Quality Implementation:Collaborates with leadership to address survey themes. Promotes and supports competency-based education and implements safety initiatives as identified by Clinical Leadership.
  • Clinical Outcome Monitoring:Abstracts, records, analyzes, and reports Perinatal Safety data. Assesses documentation, provides feedback, and encourages reporting of adverse events and near-misses. Conducts collaborative reviews of adverse occurrences and near-misses, integrating findings into education. Participates in Event Investigation Analysis (EIA), coordinates briefings and debriefings, and contributes to Fetal Monitor (EFM) strip reviews with feedback.
  • Interdisciplinary Communication & Education:Develops and delivers patient safety education for staff. Facilitates clinical drills for high-risk situations. Promotes briefing/debriefing skills and teamwork training. Attends and contributes to Perinatal Safety network workgroups and summits. Partners with informatics/IT to align EHR and data with current perinatal safety initiatives and regulatory standards.
Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education & Experience:Bachelor of Science in Nursing required; Master's degree preferred. Minimum 5 years clinical experience in Women’s Services. Minimum 2 years project experience in Women and Infants Perinatal Safety. Required experience in quality/process improvement, project/program management.
  • Licensure & Certifications:Current RN License in applicable State. Certification in one of the following: CCRN-NEO, C-EFM, RN-BC MCN, RN-BC-PERI, RNC [OB, GYN, NEONATAL], RNC-LRN, RNC-MNN, RNC-NIC, RNC-OB, C-EFM. BLS. NRP within 90 days.
  • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:Proficiency in software (e.g., Google, Microsoft). Strong ability to drive results, facilitate multi-disciplinary teams, manage complex projects, summarize information, and demonstrate critical thinking. Strong strategic planning, interpersonal savvy, and integrity. Proven ability for implementation and results orientation. Tolerant of ambiguity. Skilled in critical thinking and influential negotiations.
