Overview

At CHI Health Creighton University Medical Center - Bergan Mercy our focus is patient-centered care. Our level I trauma center and academic medical center campus is designed to heal the body mind and spirit of every person in a more comfortable less stressful hospital environment. Our full range of medical services includes trauma services heart and vascular care emergency services surgery maternity cancer care and diagnostic imaging.

Contributes to the fulfillment of the CHI Health mission and vision by managing and leading staff and processes; planning, designing, implementing and maintaining processes, procedures, policies and management systems at a laboratory location and/or a system function of the Laboratory division. Provides strategic input and leadership for the Laboratory division or site entities. Serves as a role model for ethical management behavior and understanding of positive ethical and moral principles consistent with the Mission, Vision and Values of CHI Health. 


Responsibilities

Director-Laboratory Services

Location: Creighton-Bergan Medical Center

  1. Responsible for operating the technical and support services at the site(s) in compliance with accreditation and regulatory agencies; providing timely and accurate laboratory services.
  2. Provides leadership to create an engaged workforce through the management functions of scheduling, recruiting, hiring, performance reviews, discipline, coaching, development, competency assessments and training.
  3. Oversight and improvement of workflow processes in the pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical areas of the Laboratory using the appropriate quality improvement methodology and system resources to assure standardization.
  4. Strategically aligns and manages business (budget and productivity), quality and service objectives with the goals of CHI Health and its entities.
  5. Develops collegial and cooperative relationships with other departments and leaders to be able to implement efficiencies and best practices to enhance patient care.


Qualifications

Required – must meet the requirements for general supervisor as defined by CLIA-88 as follows:

Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory/medical technology science with at least one year experience with high complexity testing OR Previously qualified as a general supervisor prior to 2/28/92 under 42CFR493.1427 (3/14/90)

Required - Certified as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist by ASCP or AMT

Minimum of four years progressive experience in clinical laboratory science is required.

Must possess strong knowledge of clinical laboratory practice, applicable laws, regulations, guidelines, and professional standards; good analytical and financial abilities, excellent communication and interpersonal skills; good tactical planning skills; computer skills including Outlook, Word and Excel; must demonstrate personal traits of motivation, team orientation, professionalism, trust worthiness and place a high value on treating others with dignity and respect.
