Responsibilities

May perform physical therapy procedure and related tasks that have been selected and delegated by the Physical therapist incorporating age specific requirements for neonatal, pediatric, young adult, adult and geriatric patients. May modify a specific intervention procedure in accordance with changes in patient status and within the scope of the established plan of care.

  • Under direction from a physical therapist, the physical therapist assistant will implement successive treatment sessions based on age, developmental level of the patient, and established plan of treatment that will enhance the patient's clinical response for attainment of functional goals.
  • Keeps team members informed of patient's response through written documentation in a timely manner regarding daily treatment provided, progress and general assessment of effectiveness of treatment techniques.
  • Treatment notes are written for each treatment given and accurately reflect both the treatment received as well as the length of the treatment.
  • Based upon the clinical response of the patient relative to the treatment plan, complete progress and discharge documentation accurately and in a timely manner, using professional terminology.
  • Instructs patients on segments of the program including proper use of orthotic/prosthetic appliances and devices, therapeutic exercise, posture, relaxation techniques, etc.

Qualifications

Minimumum:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid California Physical Therapist Assistant license
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate
  • Must have demonstrated clinical competency in a manner approved by American Physical Therapy Association and the Physical Therapy Board of California.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid California Driver's license and proof of auto insurance.
  • Must be able to drive a motor vehicle safely for moderate periods of time.
