Responsibilities

Under directions performs clinical diagnostic nuclear medicine testing on young adult adult and geriatric patients including general studies cardiac studies and the associated computer interaction. Operates computer equipment prepares room equipment supplies and radioisotopes.

  • Competently and professionally performs imaging services on patients based upon the physician's written request under the direction of a Board Certified Radiologist.
  • Practices effective radiation protection, utilizing appropriate shielding devices and administers appropriately calibrated radioisotope doses, specific for the requested exam.
  • Interacts with co workers and staff from other departments in a positive manner to deliver quality patient care.
  • Prepares radiopharmaceuticals for use in patient studies. Prepares stock solutions of radiopharmaceuticals insuring inventory reminds at par level. Assures quality controls of radiopharmaceuticals. Determines radiopharmaceutical to be utilized based on age, size or disorder of patient, consulting with physician when necessary. Confirms patient dosage received, unit dose from radiopharmacy is correct.
  • Introduces oneself to patient, explains procedure, reassures patient and secures full cooperation of patient during testing. Based on age, disorder, education, psychological needs and size of the patient, adjustment may be made to the amount of isotope given, patient education, time taken for the procedure, patient restraints, patient comfort. Alerts radiologist or supervisor as appropriate to problems encountered in testing ensuring patient and staff safety.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Must hold current certification by the State of California in Nuclear Medicine (CNMT) and the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMCT).
  • Must have at least two years clinical experience in an acute care hospital.
  • Must possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
  • Associate's degree required
  • Will be required to take call.
