Overview
As part of the interdisciplinary health care team, the chaplain provides expertise regarding the spiritual dimension of human life and healing as it interrelates to illness and death.  The chaplain provides extensive and intensive spiritual care to patients, families, and staff from diverse spiritual/religious backgrounds with respect for the dignity and unique experience of each person, helping to ensure a whole-person approach to healing.

Saint Joseph London, part of CHI Saint Joseph Health, is a 150-bed full service hospital located in London, Kentucky. Founded in 1926, the current $152 million regional hospital opened in 2010 and offers all private patient rooms, with most overlooking a small lake and garden on the 52-acre healing environment.  We are committed to providing the highest quality of care and are guided by our Mission and Core Values of Reverence, Integrity, Compassion and Excellence.  Saint Joseph London treats patients from southeastern Kentucky, including those from Clay, Laurel, Jackson, Knox, Pulaski, and Whitley counties.


Responsibilities
  • Provides spiritual support for inpatients, outpatients, relatives of patients, and staff members.

  • Empathizes and prays with the ill, the dying patients, and their families.

  • Provides for follow-up visits as needed.

  • Confers with medical and nursing staff in regards to the spiritual needs of patients.

  • Partners with the broader community to meet spiritual and emotional needs.

  • Demonstrates sensitivity to the sacramental and spiritual needs of patients, families, staff, and community.


Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Divinity, Theology, or related field 
  • NACC Certification of Standing/Affiliation with NACC - CHAPLAIN, or APC board certified chaplain – BCC-APC.
  • Board certification prerequisites include: Ordained as a minister or rabbi, or recognized by a religious congregation as a formal member or a lay person with the appropriate credentialing; 
  • Minimum of four (4) units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) from a program accredited by ACPE or USCCB/CCA; 2,080 hours experience in clinical chaplaincy; Documentation of maintenance of certification is required.
