The posted compensation range of $27.77 - $40.27 /hour is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay CommonSpirit in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting. Responsibilities
Accurately analyzes and reports all tests ordered by the medical staff in a timely manner to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. Must also act as a team leader by assisting and guiding staff in decision-making, and by taking on other areas of responsibility.
Position Responsibilities:
1. Performs and results test procedures on patient specimens adhering to the Section’s Standard Operating Procedures to ensure accurate, timely reporting
2. Ensures that major automated equipment is operational by performing required maintenance, calibration and troubleshooting procedures
3. Performs required Quality Control procedures and Maintains records to ensure tests are being performed within control limits
4. Assists in evaluation of new procedures and equipment to provide the physician with the most current laboratory technology
5. Participates in opportunities for continuing education and/or teaching, training according to the Section Performance Standards to enhance technical skills
6. Responsible for inventory of supplies
7. Adheres to all regulatory requirements
8. Process specimens and perform procedures in accordance with the Section Standard Operating Procedure Manual Accurately and completely, and do so within an appropriate timeframe, in an organized and efficient manner
9. Perform quality control, preventive maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of instruments, with the added responsibility of ensuring that these tasks are performed and documented by all personnel assigned to such tasks, and taking appropriate action as needed. A further responsibility is the preparation of QC reports for supervisory and pathologist review, and ensuring that records are complete and accurate, to meet any and all regulatory agency requirements
10. Participate in any and all continuing education activities as they become available, and share knowledge gained with superiors and co-workers, for the purpose of improvement of Section instrumentation and procedures
11. Assist in purchasing duties, and supply inventory
12. Follow established safety procedures, and be familiar with fire and disaster response
13. Evaluate and recommend new instrumentation and/or testing procedures for their specific area of expertise
14. Act as “group leader” by assisting and directing other staff in work duties as needed, and ensuring smooth workflow
15. Participates in opportunities for continuing education and/or teaching, training according to the Section Performance Standards to enhance technical skills
16. Prepare and present reports as needed and attend required meetings
Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology
Certification as a Medical Technologist – MT (ASCP), or MLS, or AMT, or NCA, or Specialty certification depending on lab section (e.g. M(ASCP) for Microbiology, H(ASCP) for Hematology, etc.)
Three (3) years of experience in Medical Technology
Extensive knowledge of specialized medical diagnostic laboratory tests and medical terminology in order to perform specialized medical laboratory diagnostic tests
