Position Summary

Operates ultrasound equipment and Performs a variety of technical diagnostic procedures which encompass the specialty area of Echocardiography. Must be able to perform 2D/Doppler echocardiograms, Pharmacological and TMT stress echocardiograms and assist with Transesophageal echocardiograms.


Responsibilities

Position Responsibilities:

  • Prepares equipment ensuring that equipment is operational, safe and functioning according to diagnostic standards
  • Problem solve equipment failure and imaging quality and contacts service representative regarding equipment problems
  • Ensures that daily equipment and room maintenance is performed during after each procedure, and that special precautions and measures are performed to ensure infection control standards
  • Completes all quality checks and Ensures that equipment logs are maintained
  • Completes all clinical supply inventories, ensuring that each diagnostic room is complete with the necessary supplies required to perform the procedure
  • Actively Participates with patient testing, performing routine, non-routine, urgent, and emergent patient requests
  • Communicates with Patient Transportation, Nursing Units, Physician Offices, and other diagnostic areas to ensure that the patients receive their diagnostic procedures in a smooth, efficient and safe manner
  • Performs portable examinations at the bedside to ensure patient safety as well as provide immediate diagnostic testing when needed
  • Ensures that patient orientation, patient preparation and patient teaching are provided prior, during and following the test completion
  • Direct physician interaction by performing case by case review of the physician request for a procedure to be performed, as well as verifying the type of diagnostic test requested and that the indication for the procedure is consistent
  • Independently selects the correct algorithm to ensure that the comprehensive and appropriate diagnostic test is performed
  • Provide specific diagnostic test information to the patient ensuring that the patient is aware to the diagnostic test involvement
  • Obtain patient history according to specific departmental procedural protocol
  • Perform physical assessment and tests according to specific departmental protocol
  • Position the patient for the examination according to specific departmental protocol
  • Select the specific equipment pre-sets and modify the settings to ensure that optimal image, Doppler and color Doppler information is obtained
  • Ensure that all recording equipment is operational
  • Complete the diagnostic examination according to specific departmental procedural protocols. Specific procedures each have defined protocols
  • Obtain assistance with any diagnostic procedures which are not completed, or if there are any patient care issues
  • Complete processing diagnostic tapes, Worksheets, and completing supporting documentation of logs, demographic and diagnostic information required for departmental, hospital and patient record documentation
  • Complete preliminary diagnostic reports
  • Complete patient visit by ensuring that patient has been discharged safely, that the diagnostic procedure is complete, that the documentation has been processed including the patient charges
  • Assist with departmental quality monitoring
    May be required based on Facility assignment:
  • Administer contrast agents, including saline contrast

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

Education and Licensure:

  • Associate’s Degree OR one year certificate from a health related program in a related medical field, which include seminar course training in cardiac ultrasound preferred  
  • Registered by American Diagnostic Registry for Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) as RDCS OR RVT or Registered by Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) as RVS or RCS

Minimum Experience:

  • Two (2) years related experience
