Responsibilities
The incumbent is responsible for the organization, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the Dignity Health Epidemiology and Infection Control Program. This includes, directing, designing, developing, facilitating, monitoring and managing activities necessary to support a scientifically based epidemiology and infection control program. This position is accountable for providing the Nursing Department and other clinical departments as requested, consultation regarding protocol, procedure, documentation development, compliance with and maintenance of Title 22 regulations, JCAHO standards, Facility Quality Improvements, planning, directing and supervising designated projects.
- Function as the Infection Control Officer for MSJMC by establishing epidemiologic systems, then monitor the effects of a changing health system to ensure that risk reduction in infection transmission to patients, healthcare workers, visitors, and volunteers is maintained.
- Collaborate with Employee Health Services to identify epidemiologically significant organisms in healthcare workers that may result in workers compensation claims.
- Function as a liaison between medical staff, employees, patients, and families to identify and resolve infection control problems through education, communication, and resource identification.
- Accountability for review, interpretation and identification of changes necessitated by regulations, standards, and/or guidelines related to Infection Control i.e. OSHA, TJC, Title 22, Conditions of Participation, CDC.
- Identify and manage epidemiologically significant outbreaks in conjunction with County and State Health Departments, Centers for Disease Control and Medical Directors for Infection Control.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualification:
- 1 year work experience in an acute care hospital or 1 year experience in epidemilogy/ infection control or 3 years experience applying joint commission accreditation standards to program design/evaluation within an acute care hospital.
Education:
- Baccalaureate degree in nursing or a related healthcare field.=
Licensure:
- Certification in Infection Control (CIC) within 3 years of employment is required.
Preferred:
- 1 year infection control experience
- Masters degree in a health care related field
- Certification in Infection Control (CIC)
