Responsibilities

As a GI Endoscpy Tech you will provide support in an outpatient care setting. 

- Day of Procedure: room set-up for each procedure ensuring infection control, restocking of all supplies and turn-over of equipment. Works within the department to ensure equipment is transferred effectively between procedures area and reprocessing areas. Engaging with providers as necessary to ensure all required equipment is ready for use. Performs quality assurance on equipment prior to use.
- Assists patients with preparation for procedures including entering data into the electronic health record as delegated by RN. Assists RN with patient readiness including checking vitals, patient positioning, performing enemas, taking blood glucose reading, and performing equipment safety checks. Participates in pre-procedure time out as part of healthcare team. Engages with patient as necessary to ensure their comfort.
- Assists with procedures and operates a variety of equipment under the direction of the provider. Collects, prepares and labels specimens during endoscopic exams. Prepares pathology slips according to standard work.
- Assists with care of patient in recovery as delegated by RN including taking and documenting vital signs and ambulating patients as necessary in preparation of discharge.
Hands off information between procedures rooms, equipment inventory and other staff members ensuring that procedures start on time with all necessary equipment available and ready for use.
- Additional duties may vary by work location, including the reprocessing and high level disinfection of endoscopes according to the manufacturer’s instructions, coordinating scope repair and maintenance requirements, and securing loaner equipment as needed.

Qualifications

We require:

- High school diploma or GED required and ability to read and comprehend at a 12th grade level or above

- Must be able to read, understand and implement instructions related to proper cleaning and high level disenfectoiin of gastrointestinal endoscopes and accessories as well as various therapeutic modalities.

- Completion of an accredited medical assistant course is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.

- Completion of the Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates (SGNA) GI Associate Progrm is preferred

- Maintain active CPR
