Responsibilities

The Emergency Preparedness Coordinator is the subject matter expert and leader of the Emergency Preparedness Program.

This includes analyzing strengths and weaknesses, planning and program improvement, leadership development, and individual site preparedness coordination.

They will introduce and implement facility‐wide emergency preparedness initiatives such as emergency communication tools, training and education and emergency operational support.

The purpose of the position is to oversee the planning, training and implementation of emergency management program to be prepared to react to both man‐made and natural events that have the potential to impact normal operations.

Essential Key Job Responsibilities

  • Oversight for all aspects of the Emergency Management Program including the development, implementation, testing and maintenance of Hospital Emergency Operation Plans.
  • Analyze future business requirements of emergency preparedness to assist in defining and implementing long‐term strategic business plans that promote a safe work environment and that are effective, efficient, and bring financial value to the organization
  • Ensure that the facility conducts functional exercises to meet the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare, Hospital Preparedness Program and FEMA requirements, as well as managing the After Action Review/Improvement Plan process.
  • Support implementation and on‐going education of the Hospital Incident Command System (HICS).
  •  Manage emergency communication plans, both internally and externally.
  • Oversee and perform information gathering and hazard vulnerability analysis.
  •  Manage Alert and Notification Program, to include training, rollout and maintenance for the facility.
  • Provide assistance/guidance to the facility/organization during an emergency.
  • Develop and maintain an Emergency Management Program.
  • Report at  meetings, as required to executive on Emergency Management program initiatives and status.

Qualifications

Bachelors of Science degree; preferred emphasis in Emergency Management, Public Policy, Engineering, or Business field.

A certification in one of the following areas:

Certified Biological Safety Professional (CBSP) by the American Biological Safety Association (ABSA)

Certified Safety Professional (CSP) by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP)

Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS) by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA)

Certified Healthcare Emergency Professional (CHEP) by the International Board for Certification of Safety Managers

Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) by the International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM)

Three (3) years of experience in Emergency Management or similar role, 3 years in healthcare environment
