The System Vice President, Pathology & Laboratory Medicine is a physician executive who provides national clinical leadership to guide strategy, standardization, and quality for clinical and anatomic pathology. The role is administratively housed within the Physician Enterprise and works in close partnership with the System Vice President, Laboratory Services (non-physician) to align clinical and operational priorities. Within this dyad, the VP drives clinical strategy, governance, and standards, while the administrative VP drives operational strategy, performance, and execution.

This position serves as a key connector between Laboratory Services and CommonSpirit’s broader clinical leadership, including the CPEO Physician and APP Leadership, national Clinical Councils, Service Line leaders, regional and market CMOs, and facility-based physician executives. The VP will help drive test stewardship, clinical standardization, integration of emerging diagnostics, and improved utilization of lab services to support safe, effective, and cost-conscious patient care across the enterprise.

● Serve as the national leader for Laboratory Services, collaborating closely with the CPEO’s Physician and APP Leadership team, Clinical Councils, and national Service Line leaders to shape laboratory priorities in support of broader clinical goals.
● Partner with regional and market CMOs, PE leaders, and Laboratory leaders to align local initiatives with national strategy, ensuring bidirectional communication and shared accountability.

Test Stewardship & Utilization Management
● Direct the design and implementation of test stewardship programs, including appropriateness reviews, reflex protocols, clinical decision support, clinical algorithms, and lab formulary governance.
● Collaborate with informatics, IT, and clinical leaders to ensure test utilization initiatives are data-driven, outcome-focused, and effectively adopted across regions.

Clinical Integration & Council Engagement
● Actively participate in Clinical Councils and Physician Enterprise forums, presenting laboratory-related proposals and content for awareness, alignment, and endorsement.
● Ensure laboratory perspectives are represented in clinical pathway development, service line strategy, and multidisciplinary forums.

Standardization & Consolidation
● Lead and support system-wide initiatives to standardize test menus, equipment, methodologies, stain menus, and reporting formats.
● Provide clinical guidance in laboratory integration and consolidation efforts, fostering operational consistency and efficiency across regions and facilities.

Test Method Evaluation & Innovation
● Serve as a clinical consultant for evaluating new test methods, emerging diagnostics, and novel technologies, ensuring alignment with system priorities and best practices.

Clinical Governance
● Participate in Laboratory Leadership meetings and work-groups to provide expertise and innovative solutions regarding, result reporting, critical values, and reference ranges.
● Provide input on national policies and procedures affecting clinical quality standards, and metrics.

Education, Communication & Culture
● Deliver education and training to clinicians, laboratorians, and other care team members on evolving topics in laboratory medicine and clinical diagnostics.
● Champion a collaborative, clinically integrated culture that connects laboratory medicine with broader care delivery transformation and patient outcomes.

Site Support & Field Engagement
● Travel as needed to regions and markets to provide on-site support, facilitate relationship building, conduct assessments, and help implement enterprise strategies at the local level.
