As an ED Nurse Leader at Northridge Hospital, now part of CommonSpirit Health – the largest non-profit health system in the U.S. – you'll guide the dedicated professionals who are the initial point of contact for neighbors in need. You'll be an integral part of an expert ED team, collaborating with board-certified Physicians, Registered Nurses, Advanced Midlevel Providers, and specialized staff. As an ED Nurse Leader, you will be responsible for:

Leadership & Compliance:

  • Serve as a clinical role model, providing expert leadership and serving as a resource for the interdisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Ensure rigorous adherence to all Hospital/departmental policies, procedures, legal, safety, environmental, infection control, and regulatory agency standards.
  • Develop, revise, and ensure consistent compliance with Hospital/departmental policies, standards of patient care, professional practice acts, and the Quality Assessment and Improvement Program.
  • Advise, chair, or actively participate in Hospital/nursing committees and meetings as required.
  • Ensure compliance with all Human Resources policies, procedures, and programs, partnering with HR and the Clinical Director on hiring, coaching, counseling, and disciplinary actions.

Patient Care & Quality Improvement:

  • Provide expert direction and support for clinical service areas, contributing to the establishment of high-quality patient care standards and outcomes informed by current nursing research and patient satisfaction.
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate patient care outcomes to optimize resource utilization and apply Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) methodologies.
  • Ensure continuity of care through collaborative efforts with the interdisciplinary healthcare team, patients, families, and significant others.
  • Evaluate the quality and effectiveness of care for defined patient populations.
  • Assess, design, and evaluate comprehensive clinical plans of care across the care continuum.
  • Review patient stays for ongoing appropriateness of continued care acuity or decisions to advance patients along the continuum.
  • Engage in direct dialogue with physician teams regarding changes in care plans and discharge planning.
  • Identify high-volume DRGs within the patient population and develop/implement Best Practices.
  • Collaborate with the nursing team to establish realistic patient goals based on current/potential capabilities and available resources.

Operations & Resource Management:

  • Monitor and evaluate productivity standards to ensure adherence to Hospital/departmental budgetary guidelines.
  • Maintain appropriate patient-to-staff ratios by flexibly allocating human resources based on skill/competency levels, patient acuity, age of population served, and cultural/ethnic diversities.
  • Ensure appropriate selection of patient care equipment and products, informed by market research and current nursing trends.
  • Work with the Director to develop, implement, and monitor departmental goals and objectives aligned with the organization's strategic business plan.
  • Work with the Director in developing product line strategies and initiatives.

Staff Development & Interpersonal Relations:

  • Identify needs and contribute to the planning of staff development and educational opportunities for members of the interdisciplinary care team.
  • Establish and maintain positive interpersonal relationships with patients, families, visitors, hospital staff, and medical staff, consistently upholding patient confidentiality.

 Clinical Program & Data Management:

  • Ensure program content and services are appropriately based on acuity, diagnosis, patient stability, and desired outcomes.
  • Utilize research-substantiated interventions and clinical protocols to develop inpatient programs.
  • Document and assess program components, identify problems, and formulate recommendations to enhance clinical quality of care.
  • Serve as a comprehensive resource for all aspects of the Electronic Health Record (EHR) for employees and medical staff.
  • Access the network and effectively utilize electronic applications (e.g., e-mail, LMS, T.E.A.M, etc.) on a daily basis.

Other Duties:

  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.


Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program. BSN preferred
  • Minimum 2-year recent Emergency Department experience
  • Valid California Registered Nurse License 
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications. 
  • ENPC within 90 days of hire
  • TNCC within six months of hire 
  • Current AHA BLS card required.
  • Current LA City Fire Card within 90 days of hire required. 
  • MICN preferred
  • Management of assaultibve behavior training.
  • PALS and ENPC required within 90 days of hire and maintained thereafter.
