Responsibilities

The System VP, EHR and Applications Operations will report directly to the System SVP, Chief Clinical Application and Data Officer.

This position will be responsible for establishing and enforcing standardized operational frameworks across our application teams. This executive role will drive efficiency, reliability, and security by defining best-in-class processes for managing the operations of all our systems, ensuring optimal performance and minimizing risk across the enterprise.

This critical role demands a strategist to spearhead the comprehensive management and optimization of a complex ecosystem of 19 diverse Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems. By driving seamless interoperability, optimizing clinical workflows, and ensuring peak system performance, the Director will directly impact patient safety, clinician efficiency, and the overall effectiveness of our healthcare delivery.


As a key member of the Applications, Consumer Experience, Data, Digital and Delivery Team, the System VP, EHR and Application Operations will lead the charge in navigating the complexities of our expansive EHR landscape. This executive-level position demands expertise in orchestrating the lifecycle management of 19 distinct EHR platforms, fostering seamless data integration across disparate systems, and championing interoperability initiatives with external stakeholders. The role will be instrumental in transforming our EHR infrastructure into a strategic asset ensuring optimal performance across the enterprise. That optimized performance includes ensuring system reliability, efficiency, and alignment with the organization's clinical, administrative, and strategic needs.

This leader will be accountable for revolutionizing our approach to Electronic Health Record management driving significant improvements in throughput, reduced operational costs, and enhancing user satisfaction across all EHR platforms. This role will also be responsible for overseeing and optimizing a newly outsourced contract for break/fix support.

ESSENTIAL KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Strategic Leadership: Spearheads the strategic vision, planning, and execution for the comprehensive management and optimization of a complex ecosystem of 19 diverse Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems. Drives alignment with organizational goals, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
• EHR Ecosystem Management: Oversees the entire lifecycle of 19 distinct EHR platforms, encompassing implementation, upgrades, maintenance, security, and decommissioning. Ensures seamless operation and optimal performance across all systems.
• Interoperability & Data Integration: Champions interoperability initiatives to facilitate secure and efficient data exchange between disparate EHRs, external healthcare providers, payers, and other relevant stakeholders. Leads the development and implementation of robust data integration strategies.
• Clinical Workflow Optimization: Collaborates with clinical stakeholders to analyze and optimize clinical workflows within and across EHR systems. Identifies opportunities to enhance efficiency, improve patient safety, and reduce clinician burden.
• EHR Operational Management Strategy and Vision: Develop and execute a comprehensive operational EHR management strategy that aligns with the organization's overall strategic goals, focusing on throughput, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. This includes identifying opportunities for standardization and consolidation..
• Outsourced Contract Management: Oversee the management of an outsourced contract for break/fix EHR support. This includes establishing clear service level agreements (SLAs), monitoring performance, and ensuring that the vendor meets the organization's needs and expectations. Identify opportunities to optimize the contract and reduce costs.
• Operational Transformation: Will define and implement operational standards for our application and EHR teams, ensuring the reliable, secure, and efficient operation of all systems. This executive role is critical to optimizing performance, minimizing risk, and driving operational excellence across the organization.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Engage regularly with clinical, administrative, IT, and other key stakeholders to gather feedback and understanding evolving operational needs. Build strong relationships and foster collaboration across departments.
• Performance Metrics: Develop strategy for monitoring overall operational performance of all applications. Define, track, and analyze performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor system efficiency and user engagement. Use data to identify areas for improvement and track progress against goals.
• Regulatory Adherence: Ensure the EHR systems adhere to local, state and federal regulations, particularly concerning patient privacy and data security. Stay up-to-date on regulatory changes and ensure that the EHRs are compliant.

• Financial Stewardship: Demonstrate effective financial stewardship by evaluating alternatives, perform cost benefit analysis, and recommend solutions within corporate policies and standards. Identify opportunities to reduce costs and improve efficiency.
• Continuous Improvement: Monitor the success of operations and maintenance procedures, and drive continuous improvements based on feedback and performance metrics. Implement a continuous improvement process to identify and address areas for improvement.
• Ownership and Accountability: This leader must be a results-oriented individual with a strong sense of ownership and accountability. A willingness to roll up their sleeves and actively participate in the work is essential. The successful candidate will be expected to own the outcomes and drive the organization toward its strategic goals.


Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Health Informatics, Healthcare Administration, Information Systems, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
20+ years of professional experience in EHR or healthcare IT roles, with a focus on operations, maintenance and support.
10+ years of experience with large scale EHR Operations and Maintenance with Epic and/or Cerner.
10+ years of experience in leadership roles.
Prior experience in senior leadership roles, preferably overseeing EHR, clinical or operations departments preferred.
Executive leadership experience in healthcare environments strongly preferred.
Demonstrated experience in managing outsourced IT contracts.
Demonstrated ability to manage large scale operations.
