The posted compensation range of $32.46 - $48.28 /hour is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay CommonSpirit in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting. CommonSpirit may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range as permitted by law.

Job Summary
The Communication Specialist is responsible for supporting public relations and media relations activities. This role includes broadening the recognition of the organization and enhancing its reputation. The Specialist plays a support role in driving the narrative of the organization, executing communications strategies, and handling interactions with the media.
Essential Key Job Responsibilities
- Support a comprehensive PR and media relations strategy that promotes, protects, and enhances the CommonSpirit's reputation within the communities we serve and across key stakeholders, including community organizations, government agencies, and industry associations.
- Identify and pursue opportunities for thought leadership, speaking engagements, public relations events and industry awards to enhance the organization's reputation and visibility.
- Maintain strong relationships with media outlets and reporters.
- Support the development and distribution of all press releases, media alerts, and public statements.
- Plan and coordinate press conferences, media interviews, and other PR events.
- Either directly or with a designated member of the team, support media inquiries and the management of relationships with media representatives and outlets, including proactive media pitches, press releases and media kits to generate positive media.
- Advise the executive leadership and key members of the organization on matters relating to public relations and media strategy.
- Develop and implement crisis communication plans and handle potential PR issues strategically and proactively.
- Either directly or with a designated member of the team, coordinate messaging and communication efforts during crisis situations.
- Monitor and analyze PR results regularly and report on the impacts of PR activities.
Job Requirements
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience with public relations, external communications, or related roles.
- Demonstrated relationships with national and regional press outlets, journalists, bloggers, and influencers.
- Proven track record in designing and executing successful public relations strategies.
- Strong knowledge of digital PR platforms and media management software.
- Experience in crisis and reputation management.
- Experience managing external PR agencies and vendors.
- Proficiency in media monitoring and PR software/tools.
