The posted compensation range of $33.25 - $36.01 /hour is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay CommonSpirit in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting. Responsibilities
Is responsible for the technical aspects of the Histology area of the Dept of Pathology. Is responsible for all P&P's, Proficiency Testing, Quality Assurance and Quality Control in Histology. Including the following:
- Accessions each patients specimen(s) into the Anatomic Pathology (AP) Information System and any manual log books as necessary. (Uses 2 patient identifiers for specimen and requisition confirmation.)
- Removes specimens form the tissue processor and embeds each in paraffin filled molds.
- Ensures that the tissue processor is properly programmed and ready to run.
- Prepares slides and performs stains as prescribed by the Pathologists.
- Prepares followup study slides for the Pathologists.
- Files slides and blocks in current files. Transfers older files and blocks to longterm storage. Discards oldest files and blocks by regulation after clearance from Pathologists.
- Keeps Histology P&P Manual updated and reviewed with the Pathologists annually.
- Maintains a clean, organized work area and maintains appropriate supply levels.
- Maintains Quality Control procedures and records.
- Performs and documents Corrective Actions for QC that is out of control.
- Notifies Pathologists of unacceptable processing or staining results.
- Recycles used organic solvents and formalin as necessary.
- Attends continuing education and maintains current ASCP Histotechnician Certificate.
- Understands and follows hospital's policies for safety, disaster, fire, infection control, body mechanics and hazardous materials.
- Provides assistance with coverage when the Pathology/Cytology Assistant is absent.
Qualifications
Experience
1 year experience beyond training as a Histotechnician.
Minimum of 3-5 years combined experience in healthcare industry
1-2 years of experience with a minimum of 1 year in area of related field
Education
Minimum: High School Diploma, 2 years of college or instructional trade preferrable.
Licensure
ASCP Histotechnician Certificate or equivalent ASCP
