Responsibilities
RESPONSIBILITIES:
In accordance with the mission and philosophy of Dignity Health the position is responsible for scrub duties in the operating rooms under the direction of the Perioperative Manager.
  • Ensures a professional and responsive atmosphere by greeting patients, visitors, staff, and physicians promptly and courteously. Refers to each individual by name when appropriate.
  • Participate in setting up an operating room prior to surgery, opening sterile packs and arranging instruments and equipment according to surgical procedures.
  • Assists with ongoing procedure data collection with RN.
  • Plans activities (in scrub role) based on priority of physical and procedural needs.
  • Plans activities that are based on priority patient care needs considering available resources of time, equipment and supplies.
  • Responsible for the meticulous handling, labeling and care of all specimens.
  • Perform efficiently and effectively in emergency patientsituations by following established protocols.
  • Practice effective problem identification and resolution using clinical knowledge base and sound decision making skills.
  • Maintains aseptic techniques when performing procedures both in a scrub role and while assisting unscrubbed.

Qualifications
EXPERIENCE:
  • Must have either one (1) year of previous acute hospital experience with certification within the past three (3) years in an Operating Room or
  • 5 years experience within the past three years in an acute care hospital. Cardiovascular surgery experience within the past five (5) years preferred.
EDUCATION:
  • Graduate of high school or equivalency. Graduate of an accredited program of scrub technician program.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/TRAINING:
  • Scrub technician certification required. In lieu of certification hospital will accept 5 years of experience within the past three years in an acute care hospital.
  • Graduate of an accredited scrub technician program.
  • Completion of annual competencies and unit specific training.
