Interpreter Translator
Language needed:
Karen, Vietnamese, Burmese, and Somali
Location: CHI St Elizabeth - 2401 S. 73 St, Omaha, NE 68124
Responsibilities
In accordance with NCIHC Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics, interprets from English to the target language and vice versa.
Translates a variety of documents from English to the target language. Occasionally, completes a sight translation or translates a document from the target language to English.
Delivers on a service model goal to provide language assistance services that incorporates efficiency, value and experience.
Identifies gaps in communication services and partners with organizational colleagues to find solutions that ensure compliance with all laws, regulations and credentialing bodies.
Understands and educates to cultural attitudes and customs of LEP individuals and United States healthcare organizations.
Keeps accurate records of interpretations and translations per department protocols.
Serves as a resource for staff on all language assistance matters, including but not limited to, EPIC functionality, telephonic and video interpreting equipment, role of the interpreter and the translation request process.
Responsible for maintaining self up-to-date on organizational and departmental developments by actively participating in meetings, roundings, safety huddles and email correspondence.
Qualifications
Required:
-Pass oral and/or written language proficiency exam.
-Ability to work in a variety of healthcare settings
-Set priorities in demanding situations, communicates priorities and assist with problem solving to achieve results.
-Successful completion of: Medical Terminology Class within 6 months of hire 40 hour introductory interpreting class within 1 year of hire CCHI or NBCMI National Certification (if available for language) within 3 years of hire.
Preferred:
-Prior medical interpreting and/or translating experience.
-High level of skill in Google Work Group
-Prior call center experience.
-Prior customer service experience.
-Prior experience with an electronic health record -Bachelor’s degree in languages, interpretation/translation or healthcare related field.
