The Mental Health Technician is defined as a member of the healthcare team who is accountable for patient care supportive services under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse. Has access to keys for locked unit and patient belongings safe.

Assist with patient/family care needs from admission to discharge. Monitor patient on Q15 min. observations including (Q5, LOS, and 1:1 obs.)  Accurately monitor and record patient VS and intake and output and daily activities, including patio breaks.  Assist Nurses with patient care to include Groups, Activities of daily living, as needed.  Must be able to effectively communicate with patients in crisis situations and assist RNs with restraining patients.   Assist in maintaining adequate stocks and supplies items. Assist with cleaning functions to maintain unit.  Keep medical record updated, including legal requirements. Documents according to policy and procedure, standards and guidelines.



Minimum of one (1) year mental health worker experience working with psychiatric patients either in an inpatient or residential setting required.

High School Graduate or equivalent required.

Current AHA BLS card. Must maintain current Fire Safety cards.


Minimum 1 year of acute patient care experience preferred.

CNA or EMT preferred.

This position is represented by SEIU UHW and is covered by the terms and conditions of the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
