Imaging Tech I - Cardiac Cath Lab

Under the general direction of the invasive Cardiologist the Imaging Tech I assists with cardiac cath lab procedures. Primarily responsible for the radiographic equipment radiographs and related imaging and archiving equipment. Participates as a surgical scrub as necessary. Monitors and processes hemodynamic data. Provides direct patient care under the direction and coordination of the RN responsible for patient care.

Primarily responsible for the radiographic X-ray equipment and archival system. Evaluates equipment and completes reporting of repair and maintenance on a daily basis.


Responsibilities

  • Responsible for upholding Dignity Health's visions, values and guiding principles. Responsible for maintaining positive morale levels in areas supervised. Communicates in a positive and effective manner with customers and staff.
  • Participates as a surgical scrub as needed.Participates as the monitor position using the hemodynamic monitoring system for documentation of the procedures performed, sampling and analysis of hemodynamic data including CO; CVP, PA, PCWP, LVEDP waveforms; Valve Area calculations, Shunt calculations.
  • Assists with preparation of lab for procedures including scrub table preparation, QC on Adult and pediatric crash carts, Intra-aortic balloon Pump, ACT machines and other equipment as necessary, assists in assuring that all equipment is in optimal working condition, reports malfunctioning equipment to appropriate person/department.
  • Assists in preparation of patients for cath lab procedures. Assists with transport of patients to and from the cath lab as necessary.
  • Maintains the digital radiographic archive system and database.
  • Performs fluoroscopic output checks, Lead Apron checks and imaging quality control.
  • Assists with departmental inventory as needed, orders through hospital materials management system.
  • Participates in on-call/standby to meet departmental needs.
  • Assists with management of arterial, CVP, Swan Ganz catheters including insertion and removal per departmental/hospital policies.
  • Assist with management of IABP including initial set up and insertion per protocol.
  • Operates external defibrillator, external transcutaneous and temporary transvenous pacemaker as necessary.
  • May be required to provide lab result report to cardiology and other staff informing whether normal, abnormal or critical values in the absence of RN performing patient care.
  • Demonstrates basic understanding of Title 17 as related to radiation safety guidelines in radiation safety as related to ALARA. Familiar with radiological imaging and positioning.
  • Responsible for exercising radiation safety as related to patient safety, under the direction of the invasive cardiologist.
  • Maintains an adequate supply inventory, maintains positive vendor relationships.
  • May be assigned to serve as a preceptor and role model to new personnel; collaborates with the supervisory staff to identify professional, educational and growth needs.
  • Performs other job duties, tasks as requested by department management.


Qualifications

  • A satisfactory completion of a full rotation at Northridge Hospital cardiac Cath lab within the last year.
  • Previous experience in scrubbing and monitoring of patients preferred
  • Courses in Hemodynamic monitoring Arrhythmia Interpretation Cardiac specific classes within 1 year of hire required.
  • Must become proficient at Siemens software McKesson Hemodynamics QSIGHT inventory management and current image archiving system within six months of employment.
  • Must become familiar with hospital Information system (AS400 ordering system) within six months of employment.
  • CRT (California Radiologic Technologist) ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologist) and fluoroscopy certification required.
  • Basic Life Support certification required.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support  within one year of employment required.
  • High School graduate or equivalent required. Completion of formal radiology technology training in an AMA approved school meeting ARRT requirements
  • CRT (California Radiologic Technologist) ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologist) and fluoroscopy certification required.
  • Basic Life Support certification required.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support  within one year of employment required.
