The posted compensation range of $17.04 - $23.43 /hour is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay CommonSpirit in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting. Responsibilities
JOB SUMMARY / PURPOSE
To assist and perform a variety of supporting tasks under the supervision of a pharmacist. This may include the compounding and dispensing of prescriptions and I.V.’s, maintaining the appropriate records associated with them and proper computer entry to comply with state and federal guidelines.
ESSENTIAL KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
General Tech Duties
1. Performs duties in documented accordance with requirements of all regulatory and governing bodies. Mandatory education from a system and department level is completed.
2. Maintains professional attitude with patients, visitors and other hospital personnel while assuring confidentiality of patient and other hospital information.
3. Complies with all HIPAA procedures. Prepares, fills and distributes unit-dose medication. Performs clerical functions such as maintaining prescription files, answering the telephone and triaging phone calls.
4. Completes charges/credits daily for billing.
5. Fills and prices department drug stock-supply requisitions.
6. Maintains the various work areas of the department and equipment/utensils in a net, clean, and orderly appearance.
7. Performs and documents inspections of the general pharmacy inventory to ensure that expired or otherwise unusable drugs are removed and replaced when appropriate.
Hospital Tech
1. Assists in the preparation of sterile intravenous under pharmacist supervision.
2. Maintains adequate levels of stock drugs in Automated Dispensing System on nursing units.
3. Checks for discontinued IV admixture solutions and antibiotic piggyback solutions in nursing unit refrigerator. Returns unused medications to the pharmacy.
4. Repackages and labels bulk oral solid and liquid drugs into unit-dose form under pharmacist supervision. Reconstitutes drugs and prepares compounds under pharmacist supervision. Maintains accurate packaging log under pharmacist supervision.
5. Resupplies emergency drugs to crash carts and heart carts under pharmacist supervision.
Retail Tech
1. Retrieval of prescriptions from patients.
2. Data and prescription entry.
3. Prescription filling.
4. Answer the phone for general customer service, prescription refills and resolves insurance problems.
5. Works the cash register.
6. Demonstrates work practices consistent with CHI Health and department-specific safety, security and infection control policies.
7. Authorized to make entries in the medical record, consistent with and limited to the scope of the job duties and any applicable licensure.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Required Education and Experience - High School Diploma or GED
Required Licensure and Certifications - Licensure required based on state worked:
- Nebraska Board of Pharmacy - Must be registered by the State of Nebraska as a Pharmacy Technician upon hire and as a certified pharmacy technician. If you were registered as a Pharmacy Technician as of January 1, 2016, you must be certified upon hire. If you were first registered after January 1, 2016, you must be certified within one year from the registration date.
- Iowa Board of Pharmacy - Technicians are required to register with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy as either a certified pharmacy technician or technician trainee prior to working in the secured pharmacy area. Certification must be completed within 1 year of hire.
Certification requirements vary by state: In Nebraska a board approved state and/or national pharmacy technician certification is required. Applicable certifications include:
Certified Pharmacy Tech PTCB (CPT-PTCB)
