Med Technologist

Contributes to the mission and vision of CHI Health by performing clinical laboratory procedures to aid the physician in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients according to established standards and practices of laboratory medicine. Identifies problems (technical, instrumental, physiological), evaluates alternatives, and determines solutions. May be assigned as a technical lead of specific laboratory instrument or area. Assists with training new medical technologists, students, residents, and other support personnel. May assess and approve competency of other techs and staff.

Education Assistance
1. Transports, collects, receives, prepares and accurately tests biological specimens using procedures consistent with safe work practices and proper laboratory technique while maintaining integrity of specimens.
2. Critically evaluates specimens and correlates all lab results to the clinical picture of each individual. Communicates and documents all testing and results in a timely manner to clinical personnel involved in patient care.
3. Maintains and operates test systems for optimal performance, being able to identify and resolve technical problems, utilizing quality control methods and troubleshooting techniques.
4. Follows CAP and all regulatory guidelines, demonstrating consistent adherence to national patient safety goals. May assess and approve competency of other techs and staff.
Qualifications
Required:
Education for Staff Job Levels Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or successfully completed three years of academic study with a minimum of 90 semester hours at an accredited college or university, and completion of 12 months of training in an accredited school of Medical Technology.
OR
Bachelor's degree in one of the chemical, physical, or biological sciences from an accredited college or university, and completion of 12 months of training in an accredited school of Medical Technology.
OR
Has successfully completed three years or 90 semester hours in an approved college or university and has experience or training covering several fields of medical laboratory work for at least one year in the specialty or sub-specialty in which the individual performs tests.
OR
Have completed on or before February 28, 1992 the necessary education and experience pre-requisites to qualify for proficiency examination approved by HHS/HEW.
AND
Certification by the ASCP Board of Registry/Board of Certification (Bachelor's degree not required if registered before 1960), if educated in the United States or ASCP eligible.
OR
Have had their academic degrees obtained outside the United State and its territories validated by an approved member of the National Association of Credential Evaluations Services, Inc. (NACES) as equivalent to those granted by an accredited college or university in the United States. Meet the requirements of highly complex testing by CLIA’88.

OR
Successfully completed an official U.S. military medical laboratory procedures training course of at least 50 week duration and have held the military enlisted occupational specialty of Medical Laboratory Specialists (Laboratory Technician).
OR
Have previously qualified or could have qualified as a technologist under 493.1491 on or before February 28, 1992.
OR
Has passed a proficiency examination for Clinical Laboratory Technologists approved by HHS.
Required Licensure and Certifications Certified as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist by ASCP, AMT, NCA or HEW or specialty board by ASCP for area employed within 12 months of hire.
