The posted compensation range of $30.91 - $45.98 /hour is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay CommonSpirit in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting. CommonSpirit may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range as permitted by law.

Responsibilities

The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) is responsible for all functions in the laboratory relative to the performance of laboratory tests that fall within their scope of practice. The MLT uses technical skills, instrumentation, information systems and other resources to perform waived and moderately complex procedures as defined under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment (CLIA). The MLT performs duties under the supervision of a Clinical  Laboratory Scientist (CLS) or physician and may not perform high-complexity testing as defined under CLIA.

  • Ensures proper patient and specimen identification during the course of laboratory analysis on time.
  • May be assigned to a specific lab area or rotate to all sections based on departmental needs and individual competencies. Plans, organizes, and prioritizes work duties to accomplish daily objectives and to comply with established lab and institution standards and practices. Follow department procedure manuals when performing ordered tests and procedures.
  • Performs a variety of chemical, hematologic, microscopic, bacteriologic, and immunologic tests and procedures accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Performs STATS and ASAP testing within the established turnaround times.
  • Performs test and procedures based on area, being aware of differences and making adjustments to testing procedures due to the patient's age, body chemistry, sex or disorder that may be cause differences in normal range results.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Must possess and maintain a current MLT license with the state of California.
  • One year of laboratory experience, preferred in an acute care facility.
  • Two (2) years of college including science courses leading to MLT licensure or experience as a clinical laboratory technician or medical laboratory technician. (Licensing path as allowed under California state law.)
  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Computer Literate
