Overview

The Director of Cardiovascular Services will be responsible for the development, growth and maintenance of clinical programs deemed integral to building/sustaining the cardiovascular services in collaboration with facility and system leadership that will meet the hospital and departmental mission and goals. Works to build and maintain physician relationships. Contributes to quality initiatives as outlined by the institution and the cardiovascular service line. Works alongside the Cardiovascular Service Line Administrator in growing/expanding cardiac services.

Main Priorities for this role is the Cath Lab and will oversee 2 locations:

1.) Lufkin Memorial (main hospital):

3 procedure rooms, 2 biplane, 1 hybrid, 9 pre/post care rooms and a TEE bay

Maintining 2 registries and 3 accreditations

2.) HIET - Heart Institute of East Texas

1 Cath Lab area

All Cardiac Imaging

Responsibilities
  • Clinical Management: Ensures the effective delivery of nursing care.
  • Performance Improvement Research: Ensures compliance with established quality standards.
  • Human Resources/Financial Management: Manages staff productivity, budget development and monitoring of financial performance.
  • Communication/Patient-Guest Relations: Provides a caring environment in support of CHI St. Luke's mission and values. Proactively strives and Supports excellence in patient satisfaction.
  • Professional Practice/Professional Development
  • Adheres to Policy – follows CHI ST. Luke’s Memorial Hospital rules, policies, procedures and
    guidelines.
  • Ensures compliance with JACHO and other accreditation standards.
  • Oversees hiring process of all Clinical staff, including interviews and personnel recommendations;
    coaches/counsels staff; completes counseling documentation.
  • Completes annual performance appraisals, providing verbal and written feedback for employee
    evaluations.
  • Consults in patient care situations requiring advanced competency & knowledge. Serves as
    clinical resource for problem solving and assists staff with patient-related issues and emergency
    situations.
  • Acts as liaison and collaborates with other departments, physicians and patient care services to
    facilitate care progression and ensure quality patient care.
  • Recognizes noncompliance and demonstrates correct application of hospital policy and
    procedures. Responsible for cost effective operations and initiatives.
  • Facilitates unit-based performance enhancement program/projects.
  • Follows up with staff and implements recommendations based on performance measures.
    Investigates and follows up on incident reports and patient concerns
  • Ensures staffing coverage to provide quality patient care and budget adherence.
  • Observes and documents clinical competency of staff. Ensures cost-effective staff utilization.
  • Assists in reassigning employees as necessary to improve productivity and balance workload.
  • Assists Administration with budget pertaining to productivity.
  • Conducts staff meetings to optimize communications.

Qualifications

Required Education:

Associate Degree in Nursing or related field
Preferred:
Bachelor's/Master’s Degree in Nursing, or other healthcare related field

Experience preferred:

5 years leadership experience
Specialty certification in area of practice

Licensure/Certification:

Licensed as Registered Nurse in the State of Texas  
Basic Life Support – BLS through American Heart Association
Advanced Cardiac Life Support – ACLS through American Heart Association
