Overview

As a Clinical Pharmacist and PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency Program Preceptor, you will be responsible for the delivery of pharmaceutical care and pharmacy services to patients, physicians, nurses and ancillary departments.  The Clinical Pharmacist Preceptor provides comprehensive pharmacy care through protocol/guideline management as well as individualizes drug therapies to promote safe, efficacious and cost-effective patient care.  The Clinical Pharmacist Preceptor serves as a role model for Staff Pharmacists, Pharmacy Residents, and pharmacy students.  The Clinical Pharmacist Preceptor must contribute to the ongoing education and development of pharmacy personnel and the education of other health care practitioners. Two of the most important areas of focus for preceptors include teaching residents how to be professionals and how to apply the knowledge gained from formal classroom education.

To excel in this role, you must have good communication skills, initiative, drive, attention to detail, flexibility, cooperation, ability to motivate others, and a commitment to continuing education to upgrade his/her skills.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborates with health care providers to individualize medication therapies to promote safe, efficacious, and cost-effective patient care following best practices and evidence-based guidelines.
  • Precept and provide effective training to pharmacy residents through learning experiences.  Prepare residents to perform exemplary pharmacy services to improve patient care outcomes.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert in the patient population in which you serve and teach.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an ACPE accredited college of pharmacy with a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) Degree

  • Completion of ASHP-accredited PGY1 and PGY2 residencies in the desired area of practice (highly preferred)

  • Completion of an ASHP-accredited PGY-1 residency with experience in the desired area of practice or three or more years of clinical pharmacy practice in the desired area of practice in a direct patient care setting required.
