Responsibilities

JOB SUMMARY / PURPOSE
Responsible for performing specimen processing, storage and transport of laboratory specimens. May assist nursing
service in the patient care areas with order entry, collection, and testing for patient specimens.


ESSENTIAL KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Perform test order entry and patient registration

2. Processes, transports and distributes blood and other samples for in‐house testing and/or send out to reference labs,
and Ensures appropriate specimen storage

3. Responsible for responding to inquiries, and reference laboratories regarding test orders, specimen requirements
and reporting

4. Assist in training new employees and clinical personnel on specimen collection

5. Performs routine clerical duties and computer Functions associated with processing patient samples and results

6. Answers the phone, Receives and disseminates verbal and written communications related to laboratory services or
personnel in a confidential manner

7. Assists with data collection for quality assurance

8. Assist in the accessioning of specimens, retrieves surgical pathology slides and blocks upon request

9. Attends all required safety training programs, general safety, department/service safety, and specific job related
hazards

10. Collaborates effectively with lab co‐workers to manage personal overtime for balanced productivity. Willing to work
other shifts as needed to meet laboratory's objective to provide quality laboratory service and patient care

11. Ability to recognize and identify root cause of problems, choose appropriately among resolution alternatives, and
implement solutions

12. Responsible for inventory of supplies

13. Attends departmental meetings/ hospital continuing education and Participates in department and hospital
activities

14. Ensures that all outpatient requisitions include all required information (diagnosis, physician signature, etc.)

15. Adheres to all regulatory requirements


Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

*High School Diploma/GED
*One (1) year of relevant work experience
